I'm not sure what was in the bottle I drank based on the descriptions of others, but this wine was a deep red, garnet colour with decent legs (we had a 2008 right after this and its colour was closer to see-through ruby). Aromas of earth, black pepper, and fruit that needed 30 minutes of air to really come out. Tastes of earth, dark berry fruit, pepper, and mild herbs. Rose petals, kirsch, licorice and light red fruit. Medium bodied with nice finish. The other reviews make me wonder if there is bottle variation here or if the reviewers don't drink much CdP. This wine has no real flaws; it's just a solid, but not great CdP, and definitely in the mid to high 80's ratings.

A medium- to full-bodied Châteauneuf-du-Pape with round tannins and surprisingly long finish. Nice, moderate fruit and texture with a hint of licorice. The mid-palate is a bit sharp though. A slight disappointment considering the great vintage. Too young? Could this improve with time? Probably will in a couple more years, but over the long-run the fruit may dry up. Something in the tomato-based Italian pasta sauce collided with this wine and brought up rather distinct, unpleasant alcohol burn. A lesson …
