03201/5518. Dusty with ripe dark fruit, good weight, a much more Nuits than Vosne Boudots in a simple showing. Somewhat uninspiring. Some of these 90s opened have been disappointing recently. 92

Sweet and pretty. Showing good life left and still fairly primary. Not a blockbuster but just a lovely example of premier cru burgundy still showing nicely at 35 years. If I had more, I’d want to drink them up now

not quite at the level one expects from Leroy. The nose offers classic Boudots spice—dark cherry, earth, and a touch of sous-bois—wrapped in gentle secondary notes of leather and dried flowers. On the palate, it’s elegant and resolved, but a shade lighter than expected, lacking the concentration and sappy depth that are usually hallmarks

Not a lot going on with this bottle. Good, no flaws, just hard to correlate it to reputation and price.

Birthday Dinner with Wine Legends (Oriole) : Black cherry, plum, and berry accompanied by a massive baking spicebox. Rich and opulent, yet this easily manages to seem wonderfully fresh for a ripe vintage wine at this age. Great now and for years to come. I could have easily mistake this for a Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru.

1990 Leroy’s .. Vosne Romanee Beaux Monts, Nuits Saint George Les Boudots, Pommard Les Vignots and Savigny Les Beaune Les Narbatons (Bottle 3785/5518) Second time with this wonderful wine in two months. Double decanted at 4:00 alongside the SLB and what a contrast, clearly a tighter, darker, broodier wine. By 8:00 this started to show its sexy, plummy, earthy soul. Larger scaled and richer than the Narbatons and with more gravitas than the Vignots while a step behind Beaux Monts’ …

(Bottle 2706/5518) Paired with Leroy 1990 Vosne Romanee Beaux Monts..... A treat to have these two side by side. The Beaux Monts was strikingly young, tight and packed with red fruit, Vosne spice. Fine tannins, impressive mid palate, lovely texture, balance and finish. The Boudots was more mature, with darker fruits and a touch of earthiness. Hard to believe these are 30 year old premier crus

Sommelier Appreciation Dinner 2019 (The Brown Residence) : Medium expressive nose displaying ripe roasted dark fruit of the 90 vintage, a hint of rose and earth. Excellent concentration, dense ripe black fruit, medium acidity, still a hint of tannins and a medium long finish. Although enjoyable, there is nothing special about the wine and absolutely not worth the current auction price.

2nd Annual Sommelier Appreciation Dinner (Undisclosed Location) : Some raisining here. Either not a good bottle or not a good wine. (Did the fruit get roasted in the cellar or the vineyard?)

Dark-berry and rose petal. Like Burghound's note, it feels like a cab. 'rustic big bodied and robust flavor' Leroy perfume and stem character Oriental spice, gamey, meaty Excellent textured and good acidity It was large in scale and well balanced like Grand Cru, but felt a little lack of focus. I still feel very young and a little bit rough.

Tasted blind, this wine had a deep red center with a light puce rim. The medium+ intensity nose showed toasty oak, cherries, black soil, and plums. In the mouth, this wine was medium bodied with firm acidty, notable rounded tannin, and great richness. It tasted almost like an Italian wine at first in that it was so exotic, intense, and structured. However, it did develop nicely with air but never was able to shake the excess of toast. I am …

Served blind, I guessed '98 from the abundant sauvage. Fortunately plenty of fruit to balance. Enjoyable wine, suffered from palate fatigue by this point would like to try again sometime.

Only one lieu-dit separated from La Tâche yet a distinctly more vegetal character evident with spicy aromas of cumin seed, green peppers and dried porcini. Surprisingly fresh tannins, acidity and minerality on the palate. Nose opened with burnt copper but settled to a lush bouquet of red berries, cherry liqueur and rose oil.

Wine Lunch Before Christmas (Happ Inn - Northfield IL) : Black cherry and berry with some faint red cherry hints. Lots and lots of spice with classic Leroy perfumed charm. Very rich opulent, and powerful while incredibly fresh for a 25+ yo wine. What a treat, thanks, Ken!

My Birthday lunch at Les Amis. Third red of the afternoon. The appearance was just ridiculous. A village, 26 years young, but deep bright red, no hint of bricking, and looking even younger than either the Dujac or the Rousseau. The aromatics of this wine was quite incredible (until the appearance of the Jacky Truchot Charmes). Instantly identified as the Leroy, this had intensely perfurmed red flowers, rose petals, wild blueberries, ripe strawberries, blackcurrants, with a touch of spice and …

I had not had the Maison BM yet. Lovely, although flat compared to the Domaine, nose of dark fruit, earth, oak and subtle spice. This opened and took on more spice and complexity with time, but never became sexy in the way I wanted it to.

Lovely nose of dried roses, cherry, some spice and a sweet note that came a across as confectioners sugar. Very perfumed. Bright and forward on the palate with excellent detail. Nice grip on the slightly dry finish.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago IL) : Started slightly funky, slightly reduced, so we decided to decant. Much better after 20 minutes, showing fresh black fruit slight very primary with the awkward youthful exuberance of a 24 year old. Oddly this ended with a slightly murky finish that made this come across as an imperfect bottle. Not quite as enjoyable as another bottle of this wine (probably from the same source) tasted earlier this year.

Burgundy dinner – 90 Krug, Raveneau, Leroy, M. Gibourg, Truchot, H Lignier and etc. (The Grill Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown) : Jammy dark fruit driven nose, dark cherries, blackberry jelly, violet, noticeable Asian spices, ginseng and mint. Exceptional concentration as expected from the 90 Leroy, jammy dark fruit driven palate impression and noticeable structure. It is a bit monolithic despite showing a hint of vosne nose a la Asian spices. Perhaps still need more time. I think this is …

HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago, IL) : Perfect color, just a beautiful shade of ruby with slight bricking. Beautiful aromatics of pomegranate, rose petals, and damp leaves. The palate was vibrant and energetic with lots of florals, ripe sour cherries, and hints of forestal tones. Incredible how fresh this tastes, could be mistaken for a 2000 or a 2002. A complete NSG that has a long life ahead of it.

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 3/21/2014-3/22/2014 (Chicago, IL) : Bright in colour and hardly showing its age in appearance at all. Juicy and ripe fruit on the nose belies its 24 years. On the back end of it all is the characteristic perfume of all Madame's wines. The palate is gently sweet but ripe sour pie cherry notes dominate. Soft and velvety tannins. Tons of acidity to handle the ripe fruit... if only all Burgundy tasted like this...

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago IL) : Absolutely delicious and fun, this shows lots of mostly black fruit, very lush and slightly sweet. Unmistakably Leroy spice, particularly aromatically. This is a very fun, fruit-driven wine, slightly light on the acidity, minerality or tannins that would make me think it from NSG.

Drank at Tru over 2 hours and saved a glass for the second day. Extremely youthful appearance. Watching this poured you'd think it was a Kistler. Distinct age on the nose at first, earth, iron iodine. Very quickly sweet black and red fruit, minerals and spice. Very dense, primary and forward. I can't believe how old this is given the fruit, but the complexity gives it away. Powerfully long finish. On day two, the nose had died, but the black …

Chicago Berserkerfest Dinner #2 (Sun Wah) : Very large scaled black fruit aromas with robust spice. Mostly sweet black cherry, some red cherry hints, still vibrant and fresh on palate. A little monolithic today, but i expect more charm to emerge with more time in the cellar, given lots of supporting structure throughout.

Village wine that is packed and stacked like a Grand Cru. Luscious and sweet with floral infused liqueur cherry fruits. It is sappy, spicy and juicy with great perfume and flesh and a nice little whip of acid keeping everything in check.

The combination of the vintage, the vineyard and the producer is a recipe for sucess. Powerful in Burgundian terms, earthy, with notes of black licorice and blackberry. Although the color was deep all the way to the rim, the slight dryness on the finish and totally integrated tannins makes me believe this wine is not only totally mature, but should be drunk sooner rather than later.
