Ca' Momi Zinfandel

This is California in a bottle...at least the red version. Varietally correct expression of a big and earthy Zinfandel. Nose is candied fruit and plum with some caramel or toffee too. Palate is big, rich, and mouthcoating with a heavy emphasis on the earthiness, spices, and black fruit. Add lots of dark baking chocolate, some espresso, grippy tannins, and a strong-if-medium length finish. Drink with roasted red meats or a chocolate-based mole for an amazing pairing. A great nose of bramble and hedgerow leads into very smooth red cherry fruit balanced by spice and a lovely finish. (I must have ticked "flawed" by mistake, and have now edited that out after noticing this when adding more of this wine to my cellar).

Wow, dark in color no tanin sharpness, very smooth, desirable richness via oakie overtone and that's after just two sips. Continued to be good throughout the night. Would say its body was 7/10, i.e. Layer Cake Syrah ’09 being 10. Bought a case, this might get even better in a year, assuming there will be some left :)
