Incredible concentration of blue fruit. Gets better and more complex with air. Needs time, but definite upside.

Out of 375. Gave this a 20-30 minute decant. Black and blue fruit, with mineral on the nose. Really quite reserved on the palate, considering the age and vintage. Surprisingly drinkable now, with some air.

Nice color of dark ruby with a reddish rim. Fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices, earth and black tea. Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, blackberries, coffee, herbs, chocolates, light oak, licorice, spices, light earth, tobacco leaf and black pepper. Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Merlot based blend from Saint Julien. Elegant …

Spices, candied fruits, banana/spice bread. High quality tannins, fresh and long. Excellent wine! Enjoy now or cellar until 2035.

IMW- 2018 Bordeaux horizontal (Embassy Suites, Napa CA) : This is elegant and perfumed with a sexy take to the tones of red cherries, bright red berries, crushed rocks, flint notes, cedar, fresh herbs, licorice, violets, and some spice box tones. This is well harmonized and balanced, but understandably primary and feeling like it is holding back a little bit. The Medium bodied feel is refined and elegant with medium acidity and youthful, medium+ tannins. This will greatly benefit from …

Even at this still primary age, it is impossible not to be seduced by this opulently-styled gem. There is a richness, flamboyance, and showy attitude here that stands out. Concentrated, long, lush, and powerful, this is going to be great with a few more years of age. Drink from 2024-2055.

Quite surprised. Purchased at a restaurant. PnP into the glass with the rest splashed into a decanter and consumed over 2 hours. Very approachable and well integrated. Could taste the impact of the higher Merlot this year. Crowd pleaser

The 2018 is a slightly unusual Beychevelle in the modern era. Always a wine with a relatively high percentage of Merlot, it’s a particularly large portion of the assemblage this year and it shows. Tasting this blind, I’m struck by how soft and fleshy this is, full of red and black cherry with a slightly liqueur-like, griottine nose. The alcohol shows slightly more on the palate than usual, probably in the context of the fleshier textures imparted by the higher …

Deep, clear, dark garnet red, ruby in the center. Deep, rich red and purple fruits on the nose. Really deep purple fruit with notes of tar and charcoal. Needs another 8+ years to integrate and mature.

Currants, red berries, green pepper, herbs good minerality. Already a joy to drink now. But will obviously continue to evolve over the next decade or so. A bit too sharp for my palate at this stage.

International Congress of Chinese Cuisine and Wine 2022 Masterclasses (Goodwood Park Hotel, Singapore) : Light-medium ruby. Hint of vanilla on the nose. High tannins and more structured than the 2019s with medium+ acidity on the palate. Made of 49% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot

Tasted this wine at the Chateau Beychevelle Masterclass during the International Congress of Chinese Cuisine & Wine at the Goodwood Park Hotel. Rich clay and porcelain in the nose. Heavy wine with a heavy weight structure. Not a crowd favourite but this wine will last and will improve and benefit from aging.

Decanted for three hours. This is full on the nose alone, with a salaciousness. Black cherries, cedar, sweet oak, blackberries and miso. The palate has a lot of dark and red fruit, with some savory vanilla. Voluptuous and yet quite refined, with a leathery halo and a full body. The finish sails on and there’s a back grip. One of the best Beychevelles to ever be released. Of course this is young…yet delectable. Drink 2026 -.

A little bit tight on the nose. And just opened. And dark fruited on the palate as well. Very structure, intense. Not giving up much on the opening. 50% Merlot, 45% Cab, 3% PEtite Verdot and 2% Franc. 2016 was the first vintage at the new winery.

A: opaque deep purple N: med+ intensity, lots of black fruits, blackberry, black cherry, black currant, cassis, baking spices, clove, earthy notes, wet earth, gravel P: med+ intensity, blackberry, black cherry, licorice, baking spices, clove, vanilla High alcohol, dry, high tannin, full body, med acid, med+ finish (slightly hot for me). Very youthful, oak is tangible but not overdone. Deep, dark, brooding innate character. Opens up well throughout the night (~3 hours in a decanter), still never losing its aggressive …

Concentrated and ripe dark fruit. Notes of oak, cedar. Tannins were soft and the 2018 was surprisingly balanced at this point. A little warm with alcohol. I really liked this wine. The QPR at $89 will give me pause to purchase more. Still, a really well made wine.

Had a second round with this wine, and once again, the same impression of heat detected by even some new drinkers. The oak creme comes in a touch strong as well, and the fruit is showing a bit more than last time. The finish is quite long, but again, I don't find this as a must have from all the other good wines in 2018, and many at lower prices. Most of these flaws should smooth out with about 7 …
