Still needs time or a very long decant. Better on day two. Very dark in the glass and show a dark fruits and dark chocolate on the short finish. Not sure if the varietal make up, but seems to skew towards Malbec for me??

Nice and enjoyable after 2 hour decant with bavette steak and bourbon cream sauce, however would recommend a couple more years on this one. First experience with Buoncristiani, and looking forward to trying their flagship wine next.

Decanted at 4pm and tasted from 7-10pm. Dense but still slightly translucent garnet color. Heavily oak influenced nose. Slightly bitter on the palate but still bright and a bit tannic. Red and black fruited but more secondary with vanilla, cedar, tart cherry compote and licorice. Tobacco on the fairly long finish. Lots of oak induces complexity. If not for the heavy handed oak this would probably be more balanced and expressive. The fruit seems covered over.

Filling in w/the Friday Brown Bag Group (R&D's) : Single blind. Dark color. Chocolate, oak spice, mocha, and a hint of lavender. Coarse tannin, with flavors of blackberry liqueur, chocolate and spice. Has a subtle bouillon undertone. Guessed 2005 Napa cab blend. This had been double decanted a couple of hours prior to the flight being poured. Decent, but I don't think it will improve from here and may be just starting to decline- drink up.

WCC 2004 California Cab Blind Tasting (Provence Restaurant, Albany, NY) : Similar to #2 (Cloud View), but thicker with a Rhone-like waxiness. Big, rich, thick, lush. Long, exotic, spicy finish. A Bob Foley wine? Tied for group WOTN. Looking back, I was not that surprised that this has syrah in it, even though I was told no non-Bordeaux grapes.

The Wines of Stellar Cellars, LLC (The Anvil Club, East Dundee, IL) : Dark garnet color. Notes of violets, rapberries and dark fruit. Full-bodied, with firm, but slightly sweet tannins. Flavors of dark fruit on the palate. Very well-balanced, with a decent finish.

Mouthfuls of blackberry, cherry, and red currant with some vanilla on the palate, and a lingering cherry and cinnamon finish. Soft tannins and great balance. Opened and decanted for about an hour, but it really needed 3-4 hours. This is a BIG wine still in it's infancy. Not much on the nose at first, as it decanted and came to room temperature I got some dark fruit and a lot of earthiness. Wonderful nose of sweet red fruit. Full and fine first impression on the mouth that lingers well. IMO, this wine's biggest challenge is that it starts so strong that it leads you expect a bigger finish - I need to remember this is a Claret. All in all, a wonderful evening starter on the way to a "big dog" cab.

Tasted at STAVE Napa. Strong fruit on the nose with cherry and raspberry notes. Oak is toasty and warm, with a lingering vanilla. Spicy on the tip of the tongue, with little fruit and full-body in the midpalate. Finish is moderately tannic with an oaky core but more a whimper than a bang. Based on the nose strength, I'd estimate 5 years aging before the flavor catches up.
