Villa Maria Villa Maria Riesling Cellar Selection Dry, New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

Really warming to this wine. Perhaps a little time is helping matters. I used to find it a little low intensity, but I dont feel that's a fair criticism any longer. Nice sugar/acid balance, overall sweetness is high but not excessive, there's a touch of botrytis detectable now which I hadn't previously appreciated. It's easily bested by the likes of the Forrest Botrytised Riesling but this is definitely a lovely wine.

A great easily quaffable sticky. Enough sugar to keep pace with most desserts, but not lacking acid to hold it together. Good overall intensity. No hint of botrytis. On the other hand, nothing remarkable, but this is a mass market wine at an entry level price. Great value.

Explosive aromatically: Bee wax, yeastiness, hint of smoke, sweaty socks:) peaches and white flowers. Full-bodied with ripe grapefruit, lime. Some minerality floating in the background also. Fruit is explosive and intense but wine doesn`t feel heavy at all, good acidity balances everything here. Long long floral and honeyed aftertaste

The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.
