Akiyoshi, Cabernet Sauvignon, Clarksburg

Found in the back of the cellar, rather wish I hadn't. Definitely cooking wine quality at this point.

Deep ruby colored, this Cali Cab has medium viscosity (13.9% ABV)m and slight staining. The nose has aromas of bright red fruit with some candied notes along with some floral and oak notes. Cherry candy, ripe red raspberry, red plum, licorice, mocha powder and lavender. It's an interesting mix. The palate is dry? Dare I say a touch of RS? Swampy- horrible.

This wine was borderline undrinkably tannic at least at this age. Tons of rough, young tannin and a bracingly boozy finish. After two hours it mellowed slightly but it's clear this needs more time to become anything worth drinking. Blind tasted alongside other young Cali cabs, this one appears to have developed the least and has low fruit today. I wouldn't count on it being anything special even if given enough time, it just doesn't have the balance and structure.

Another angel wine from naked wines, this bottle was very ripe, jammy, with a rustic core of wild red berries, unfortunately it comes across as a bit manufatured. This was a decent offering good for hamburger Tuesday or pizza Wednesday.
