And quite a powerful Riesling from Van Volxem, which belies the usual delicate house style. Very punchy and blocky texture. Quite warm. RS too, but it worked well again chilled with the spicy food.

Goldgelb. Subtile Fruchtaromen, eher exotisch geprägt, Banane; am Gaumen voll, hintergründige Säure, guter, langer, mehrschichtiger Abgang. Eine Flasche, die nach dem Kauf gleich in den Klimaschrank gewandert ist.

not blind It is not my style of wine at the Moment, so I think I'm not really fair in Rating even if I try. Too sweet, not perfectly balanced so after two glasses it gets a bit boring. Good acidity and extract sweetness. 91-92

Monthly Tasting Group EEE; July 2019 Favorite wines of our hosts (@ BD) : Ripe apples and honey in the bouquet. On the palate a tasty wine with tropical fruits like mango, good citrus, some bitterness and good petrol. Great length. Not extremely elegant, but a lot of concentrated wine. No hurry at all.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #110; Blind Tasting Riesling Germany vs Alsace (France) (by MM) : Beautiful bouquet with tropical fruits like peach, apricots, smoke and minerals. On the palate yellow tropical fruits, but also pear, a bit fat, a touch of sweetness, petrol and good acidity. Beautiful and still youthful.

Glass: Riedel Vinum Riesling Popped and poured, only short notes taken. Wonderful ripe and baroque Riesling, very vintage specific. It is somewhere between dry and off-dry, but the remaining residual sugar gives this wine exactly what it needs! Wonderful Saar Riesling aromas, salty mineral notes, exotic fruit paired with a good acidity level, quite modest alcohol of 12,5% and the residual sugar. Very enjoyable! This wine is at its peak now, but will stay there for 2-3 more years.

DRank it blind, very precise, citrus, decent exotic fruits as mango and passionfruit, refreshing thrilling acidity, nothing annoying, even in this baby stage very fine and reluctant, long pure finish. Lovely Mosel Riesling. I will drink over the next years 94-96

This Riesling shows its drive right from the beginning with smoky minerality and yellow fruit. A little blunt and rather opulent without being really loud. Present ripeness (of botrytis), some lime and little saltiness. Unfortunately lacking density and, most of all drive. Finishes brittle.

Consumed over two days. The wine was light to medium yellow-golden in colour and offered a very expressive, fruity nose of peach, dried apricot, ripe lemon, wet stone and signs of bottle age. On the palate the flavourful, medium- to full-bodied wine showed peach, dried apricot, ripe lemon, some ripe quince, a tiny hint of tea and mineral notes, paired with medium-plus fruity acidity and good length. The 2009 Van Volxem Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Erste Lage - Alte Reben is pale yellow in colour with a bouquet of rather perfumed apricots, fleshy peaches, honey and a detectable hint of petrol. A very pleasant bouquet that is definitely an enjoyable whiff. Monthly Tasting Group HWS #070; Germany: TOP Riesling by an importer. (By AS) : Fairly dark yellow. In the bouquet a touch of petrol, minerals, apricots, honey and other yellow tropical fruits. On the palate minerals, a whole candy factory and pear. Full bodied, expressive and spreading through the mouth. Juicy, expressive and with also a touch of sweetness and a little bitterness in the finish. Very friendly and very tasty wine.

Pop and pour. Drink for two days. Another awesome 2009 German riesling. What can I say? Ripe, but not too ripe riesling fruit. Stony and silica minerals, fresh sweet and bitter grapefruit, Long finish. A telling thing about this wine is that it is so good as it warms to room temp. If only Roman would been a little better at fulfilling his orders this year, because his wines are awesome.
