Medium garnet with a little bricking. Need a little time before the nose got going - when it did, we had a lovely nose of cassis, tobacco, raspberry and earth. Drying medium tannins initially but did integrate well with the fruit once all the elements came together. Moderate acidity, light to moderate bodied. Black currents, leather, earth, smoke and vanilla with a moderate length.

Undrinkable. Wasn't corked but it was marred by an overwhelming flinty, sulfur note that was completely off-putting.

Very good QPR. Cedar, pencil lead, still fruity (reddish berries). Tanins rounded out. This is at it's peak but I imagine it could stay there another couple of years.

Decanted 4 hours in advance. Disregard the critics on this one - this is a lovely little wine which, as with so many 2001 left bankers, has flown well under the radar. The main attraction is the gorgeous silky texture which paired beautifully with the chunky proteins of a roast rib of beef. Sweet, composed attack of blackcurrants, graphite and well-integrated oak. Blind Bordeaux Tasting (Our House) : Sweet cherry nose, bit of green pepper. Light to medium bodied with sweet blueberry fruit and a hollow midpalate. Not a whole lot going on here. (my 4th, group's 3rd)

EXCELLENT VIN Vin exhibant une robe grenat plutôt profonde. Nez complexe s'ouvrant sur de subtils parfums de menthe poivrée, de mûre et de pin. Il est aussi marqué par des effluves de fumée, d'anis et de laurier. Prenez plaisir à déguster ce rouge exprimant une acidité rafraîchissante et doté de tannins étoffés. Il offre une bouche ample qui se prolonge dans une longue finale.

Nice nose with blackcurrant, wet stones, mushrooms and chopped wood. The taste follows the nose with nice Bordeaux aromas and the wine has a fine balance between fruit and the terroir.

Black currant and leather dominate the nose. Simply great mouthfeel, dense texture and silky tannins. Some fruit on the palate, but it's dominated by notes of leather, mocca, licorice liqueur. A bit short on the finish, but overall very good.

Not the darkest colour, showing a hint of evolution. The evolved, charming nose is not quite matched by the palate which is a tad simple and lacks intensity. I enjoyed this, especially the lovely nose. This is fully mature and probably needs drinking up in the next year or two.

Monthly Tasting Group LTB 2009-02; Médoc: La Tour de By: Vertical of 10 vintages (by HG) : Very pleasant bouquet which is already somewhat developed. Fairly full bodied with cassis and even some chocolate. A pleasant wine. Much more developed than I expected of a 2001 wine.

It benefits from a bit of aeration and it displays leather, fresh tobbacco, earth, and red fruit. Nice, approachable, simple, and rustic, with good structure and a 20-second finish. Drink by 2009.
