Beautiful color and a freshness you'd not expect in a 13 year old California chardonnay. Qupe wines just blow me away with their ability to age, but I've not had a white like this from them. Seems like this one could go a few more years. Just the slightest tinge of oxidation on the back palate, but pleasant and adding depth to the spice, oak, and green apple. Terrific bottle.

Note is from day 2. Honeysuckle, vanilla, and cream. A rich Chardonnay, no doubt.

From a magnum. I thought the malo treatment would make this a good Turkey Day Chard. I was both right and wrong. The crowd relished this wine to such a degree that the bottle was drained long before the bird was served. Precise and delineated, with orchard fruit notes balanced by a saline thread. The minerality provided welcome complexity as well. A great vintage for this bottling, but it's a crazy value if you can find some.

Popped, poured, consumed over next 90 minutes. Well balanced, cool climate California Chardonnay that strikes a pleasing balance between moderate lush fruit, refreshing acids, salty minerals and a sprinkling of quality French oak spice. It has developed well in the cellar. Well made and very enjoyable.

I am confident that if you served this wine on the beach in a cocktail glass with an umbrella, few people would realize that it's not a tropical cocktail. The only dead giveaway that this is wine is the presence of French oak. I am not trying to denigrate the wine. It is what it is: loads of tropical fruit and creamy notes that I can't help but compare to coconut.

From a 375. Vanilla and tropical fruits (pineapple) on the nose. Less nutty than what we had yesterday. Medium acidity with and citrus on the palate; medium bodied with a nice creaminess. Some white pepper on a refreshing finish.

Los Olivos Tasting : Definitely more apparent oak than the previous wines, but still very well-integrated. Some grassy notes on the nose as well as a hint of marzipan. Good balanced mixture of acidity and creaminess on the palate. Softens nicely in the finish, which is rich and refreshing at the same time. Seemed more California than old world, but very good.
