Doolhof Estate Pinotage Dark Lady of the Labyrinth

One of the best Pinotages I've had (outside of Beyerskloof)

Smoky bacon notes with copious fruit

Dry, tart. Better with food. Had with pork. Very good.

Similar day 1 as baylinboy. Not tasted day 2. Day 3 it turned into a pinotage, but not the band-aid/bicycle tire/banana peel funky yuckiness. More of an earthy-type funkiness, but enjoyable.

positively surprised compared to other reviews. Bright claret color, red cherries and chocolate soft and smooth on day 1 - very nice. day 2 had some extra acid but still very reasonable

Heavy oak nose; medium bodied, somewhat tart. Too much oak on the palate for me - masks the fruit (which is mostly unripe red plum and cherry). My first shot at trying a Pinotage - so I have no varietal basis to contrast this tasting against . . . but in any event, it's a bit difficult to find the varietal under the wood in this case.
