Fietri Chianti Classico Riserva

Well this just seems to be going from strength to strength. Earlier in life this was quite austere. But the fruit has grown. There’s plenty of herbs and earth and it doesn’t change much over an hour plus. But this is an excellent CCR with real depth.

Still needs some air at this point. Not austere upon open as there was no tannin showing, but not fruited at all and not as interesting. After opening some, the fruit was still muted, but lovely hints dark cherries became more apparent as did some cigar box. Likely the best bottle I’ve had. Still well delineated but less austere. Well balanced and developing very nicely.

From the VDLT sampler. Dried cherries, a hint of strawberry and spice. Sweet pomegranate, strawberry and significant chalk.Medium bodied and a pleasing drink. Still a lot of development ahead for this wine. Best of the lot so far.

A fine bottle. Herbal and earthy and showing more glimpses of fruit than prior versions. A fine pairing with butternut squash and quinoa with sage browned butter.

This comes across somewhat clenched on the palate. I'm not familiar with the producer, so no way to know if that is a stylistic winemaking choice or just the fact that the wine is still young. The nose is the highlight here; classic Chianti, with crunchy red fruit and menthol.

This is a quiet wine. It offers sincere Chianti character but in a rather austere manner. I don’t recommend trying this with other wines. To appreciate its subtle strengths savor it without overt distractions and with well chosen food.
