First 2 glasses were a pop n pour, lid back on, drank the remaining 4hrs later. It’s cabernet driven upfront, a little austere, with the blending partners doing their job providing some plummy, cherry and mild chocolatey roundness and fullness on the mid palate. Back palate still drying with quite a bit of grip. Travelling well, but still as a blend probably out of balance and harmony at this point. I always question with Aus cabernet blends whether the clonage …

4hr decant. Ripe blackcurrant and cherry fruit. Graphite, eucalyptus, aniseeed. Powdery tannins, well integrated. Beautiful Cab but lacks some wow factor.

{screwcap, 14.2%} Deep garnet still. Floral nose; roses, violets. Spice; it's not like to Wynns to make your standard Bdx blends and it's though they've gone all out on the Franc, given the chance. Fruit-driven palate, seemingly barely-oaked. Medium weight. Low/medium fine dusty tannins, medium acidity. All very balanced and polished. Nice even palate, fruity, yes, but not overly sweet. Medium length finish. I think it needs a bit more tannin to shine over the really long term, but it …

16 Odea A very complex nose. Blend is still integrating, you can see and taste all of its parts. Medium bodied, very herbal and floral, this savoury wine just kept going on and on giving little flashes of detail as it sails. Was surprised not to see any Shiraz in this blend, a notable black pepper twang sweeps from front to back. A very long and complex wine, for people who like savoury complexity. Like me. It’s not often that …

Drunk over two nights. It’s all about the fruit, mouth feel and potential. A little incohesive on day one but the last few sips on day 2 indicate where this could end up. Day one 91-92. Day 2 92-94. Would guesss day 3 better again, but didn’t last that long. Great and very interesting wine. Hold remaining bottles for 2-5 years

This needs a couple of days to show its detail and best. Closed up on day one. Now on day 6 it’s showing all its detail and floral charm. This is very unlike Wynns, low oak, elegant, floral and varieties I’ve never seen from them before in the same wine. Excellent, with more to come. Drink next bottle in 5 years.

Trying this now. 2 hours in decanter. Perky black and purple fruit, medium bodied. A floral and green note- violet and capsicum. The creamy oak is there, but it’s dialled back in body and oak compared to the 16 Black Label. Salty black olive, ultra fine, tannins really pull away from the fruit through the middle and (long) length is very savoury. Subtle Coonawarra spearmint kicks, and menthol sticks, through the finish. Then that fruit pokes through again. Then a …
