WCC French whites that are not from Burgundy (Yono's Restaurant, Albany, NY) : Mild lemon zest nose. Bright and refreshing in the mouth. Lovely to drink, but no complexity.

Medium gold. On the nose, lime, mandarin, quince, ripe peaches, jasmine, honey, a firm mineral note. On the palate an intense attack of fruit, round mouth feel, rich and delicious, medium+ acids, medium alcohol, very long finish. Great complexity and balance. Perfect with oysters.

Open nose, spicy, smoky, notes of gooseberry, some yellow fruit mixed in. Excellent balance on the palate - lots of acidity, very intese, but also good ripeness of fruit due to the generous nature of the vintage. Lingerling finish, very long. Drink or keep. 92-94

I’m not convinced that sauvignon Blanc is designed for aging. Sure that’s a different animal in Bordeaux and they can develop in balance but this wine didn’t leave me with the impression that I should hold my Vatans across the fence or Cotats for 15 years. Pale yellow. Rich aromas of ripe apple, white pepper, lemongrass, and honey. Round and full bodied on the palate with flavors of lychee acids, light layer of acid on a complex aromatic spread at the back, long finish.

I’d have probably chosen a different Boulay ‘15 but momma had free reign if the cellar and picked this which had pretty bracing acidity and green, bitter olive notes. Finished long but less wine than expected.

This needed quite a lot of air to u fold. Consistent to previous bottle. Reflects the warm vintage. Loose knit finish, with a hard edge. Will age further. .

Bright light yellow. Crisp citrus, bracing acidity. There is a honeyed talc note on the finish. This has layered significant complexity with time- a terrific wine to savor.

Oh, man. This is one that changed from Night 1 to Night 3. First night: Overt lemon taste, to the point where I couldn't get a sense of any minerality. Other tasters have called this flavor marmalade, but I'd call just a bit over the top. I put the cork back in after 90 minutes. Two nights later: Overt lemon was gone. Solid body and good acidity. Floral nose almost like a gewrutz. More orange marmalade than lemonade but with tropical flavors. Not crisp but round finish with mineral notes. Paired well with seared scallops and angel hair with lemon arugula and pine nuts.

Sancerre in Three Colors (SF Wine Trading Company) : Airy floral and orange nose. Rich, caressing entry with underlying grapefruit pith and a touch of something more tropical. Layered with a strong quinine and stone finish. The most mineral and ageworthy of the bunch today. Typical Boulay texture and depth.

Through the Heart of France; 11/17/2013-11/25/2013 (Centre, Aubrac, Languedoc and Paris) : Medium yellow. Orange oils and pineapple-very exotic. Full, lush, off dry. Just the faintest Sauvignon herbaceousness. I tried this blind and could have sworn it was a demi-sec Chenin Blanc. A wine in the rich Cotat style, but it misses the mark due to low acidity.

A beautiful, complex bottle of Sancerre. Right up there with (or even better than) the 2005 Comtesse. In contrast to a 2005 Clos de Beaujeu I had recently, which tasted more like an aged Chenin Blanc, this bottle was quite youthful and was more like a "typical" Sancerre, with some grassy notes and florals, albeit with far more depth, complexity and minerality. Crystalline, pure sauvignon blanc. Stoney minerality, not a lot of the grassy herbal notes that often are prominent in some Sancerre wines. Given its lineage, and level of acidity, I'd guess that this will gain complexity over the next 3-5 years.

Fantastic Sancerre. Color is very light and translucent. Nose of lemon zest, grapefruit, a bit of floral scents. Front Palate is fantastic, very concentrated flavors of limestone, strong minerality though very rounded and no tartness. Finish is excellent and long. A really excellent bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Can't imagine how well this will drink in a few more years (SHould continue to improve for a while) and looking forward to trying the 2007 and 2008 this spring.

Pretty brilliant. Great concentration, sweet tropical fruit, balanced by wonderful acidity, and deep Loire minerality and earth. A full-on thrill ride of a wine, yet poised at the same time. One of the most enjoyable wines I've had in a long time.

this is a pretty intense and impressive sancerre. powerful nose. high acid, crushed stone, lots of minerals and some smoke. a sancerre to age.

Refreshing minerals, grapefruit, green apple, guava. Jus a hint of smokiness. Sneaky long finish. Gonna wait 5+ years for the other bottle.
