Dinner with the D'As where L served up her legendary pappardelle with lamb ragu. Slo-oxed for 15 minutes. Blackberry, black cherry, red cherry and some cedar on the nose. All of these follow on to the medium bodied palate along with some earthy notes and spice. The acidity is nicely balancing and the tannins are completely integrated, making for a very smooth drink. This wine is ready to go and should hold for another several years.

Garnet color, with aromas of red and black berries, some floral notes, and vanilla. Secondary notes of leather emerge as well. Taste is harmonious with all of the above showing up along with some pepper note. Medium acidity and a fairly long finish. This is quite a complex wine that is alive and kicking even after 11 years. The fruit faded quicker than the rest of the elements to be outstanding but definitely in the upper end of a very …

1 hour decant. A solid and hefty prune and leather Napa cab-based blend in an affordable package. Hard to get a Mt. Veeder at this $34 price point. Go get some!

Tremendous surprise. Fantastic and way out paced my expectations. Subtly ripe but not overly ripe. Great balance. $100 wine that cost only 30 bucks...

This has aged into a well balanced wine with plenty of depth and a very rich expression of dark fruit and balanced caramel, wish I had more in my cellar.

Opened with big black fruit aromas and was a beautiful ruby color. Nice balance of fruit and tannin, definitely better than the 2009 version that I had a year ago. Great match for Friday night Ribeyes.

Medium bodied, some hints of oak, not a lot of complexity. Good with friends.

CA Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA) : N: Some jam, a bit closed? Pyrazines also there? P: MF body; Choc covered berries on entry with fine, dusty tannins on the finish. A seamless, lovely style that emphasizes elegance rather than brute force. Should shine with food! 60% Malbec, 30% CS, & 10% Syrah, the WA giving it 93 pts. My score reflects the QPR of this vendor's $20.95.

Dark burgundy in color. Aromas of dark fruit, although not as much as I would like. Blueberry immediately on the palate with secondary flavors of prune and cocoa. A hint of pepper. Medium bodied. Nice wine.

Initially tart, bitter. Decanted, much better after 2 hours. Musty nose of tart berry. Nice balance of raspberry, pepper, tobacco. Medium acidic finish.

A respectable wine with some depth and balanced profile. Plums and dark fruits with a medium body mouth feel and fairly long finish of blackberry and prunes. Easy to drink and flavorful.

Drank at a steakhouse (Joe's). Much too young blend (mostly malbec and cab, in that order... and some syrah) that drank like a fairly generic Napa red: aggressive oak, very fruit forward, robust tannins. Unremarkable, and definitely not my kind of wine. At least this one offers some acidity and minerality - and a somewhat reasonable price - for a Napa red.

We decanted the wine for one hour before we poured the first glasses. It was dark ruby in colour and offered floral notes, red and dark fruit, Crème de Cassis, cherry, plum, date, chocolate, graphite spices and eucalyptus on the nose and palate, complemented by some liquorice on the finish, with medium-level acidity and tannin, a good mouthfeel and very good length. The medium- to full-bodied wine was smooth and very balanced and kept improving as time passed. We liked …

Seductive nose filled with dark fruit, minerals and some heat. Big bodied, with dark cherries and plum. Balanced, but not overly complex (which I find to be a Malbec quality). Really nice finish. This wine exceeded expectations after a trying both the disappointing Hess Alomi and a very impressive Hess estate Cab. Great value!

60% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah. Mossy and even a little eucalyptus to the nose. Licorice and fresh black fruit to the palate.

Wow, from a truly serious Napa producer, a mostly Malbec with Cabernet and Syrah that really rocks. All 3 of these varietals tend to be fruit forward, especially when totally ripe, as can easily happen in Napa. The color is teeth staining purple. There is plenty of fruit on the entry, but it seems to keep growing as it slides down the palate. Boysenberry, blueberry, plum red raspberry. They didn't spare the oak and didn't need to. The solid, lingering …

Brambly nose gives way to cherry and sandalwood on the pallette. Plush and silky, making this easy to drink. Pleasantly long an unexpected finish. A nice experience end-to-end.
