Famille Perrin, Gigondas, La Gille

12 years since my last note - this has aged beautifully in the cellar. Dark garnet, with moderate bricking at the edges. Still brambly blackberry, with a touch of blackcurrant and slightly herbaceous. Really great balance of fruit, with excellent acidity. Super fine tannins. Long finish.

I dont know what to make of this. So subtle that I can hardly remember the taste 10 minutes after drinking it, nor indeed could I really describe the taste while drinking it. Maybe it is bottle variation. I have another bottle so I will try it and see.....

2015 vintage

No notes taken. Deep ruby, black core. Nose of blackberries, cedar, earth on the nose, milk chocolate. Dry, medium(-) acidity, medium tannin, high alcohol (14.5% abv), medium(+) body. Palate of blackberries, leather, cocoa, mocha and pepper notes. Velvet texture, balanced. Rch and elegant, fruit is slightly fading. Good length warm finish. Excellent to sip during the cold months.

Typical nose of brambles, spice and blueberry liquer with a hint of spring flowers. Medium-full bodied thisbis quite rich and thickly textured. Heady nose with super ripe black cherry and berry, eucalyptus and some garrigue. Full-bodied, this is typical of 2007; loads of amorphous ripeness! It is fully mature and should be consumed with roasted, herbed pork! 87

A bit pruney/raisiny on the nose. Deep ruby color with distinct clear rim. Pretty smooth mid palate but finish is a tad sweet and has a little overripe fruit element. Still an interesting wine but would drink up if u still have in your cellar.

Featuring lovely notes of raspberry, blackberry, arctic bramble, plum and herbs, this medium-bodied Gigondas is in a very pleasant and gentle phase at the moment. It is still fruity and fairly intensive, but the tannins have fully integrated, and the wine gives a very balanced impression on the palate. I can not say, how this wine would evolve in the future, but at least it is very enjoyable now.

This medium-bodied wine is balanced and very pleasant. The wine is in a very good phase at the moment: the tannins have softened, but the fruitiness is still there. The aroma and flavor palette provides arctic bramble, other red and dark berries, herbs and coal. I would recommend to drink this wine soon and not store it for a long time.

Last bottle, let it breath for a couple of hours, no change of note from the last bottle, but a bit duller! not much vibrancy in this one, in fact quite an average drink, it may be just the one bottle, but on this one not VFM, not something I thought I would ever say about a Perrin wine.

I was looking for red wines that would pair well with turkey dinner for Canadian Thanksgiving. A great website* recommended Gigondas wines. I happened to have this 2007 vintage as well as a 2015 Domaine Brusset Gigondas Tradition Le Grand Montmirail. Filtered and decanted for sediment about 15 min, drank over 1 hr. Delicious but this bottle is past its prime but still nicely integrated layers - muted flavors of plum, blackberry, dark fruit, then a little white pepper, hint of green olive, and some herbaceous notes, med-long finish. Paired well with ratatouille, still very good and a great example of how an excellent wine can change flavor profile with age but still be enjoyable, just wish we had drank it …

Very well made wine. The red fruit is ripe and warm, but without being overripe or giving stewed impressions. There are some pleasant bitter touches originating more from its terroir than from the barrel aging. This juicy wine ends with a warm and fruity aftertaste.

Youthful, bright raspberry aromas and flavors. Bit of lavender and rosemary on the nose. Balanced with good mid-palate punch and long finish. Garrigue lingering in the background. Good for another couple of years but I like this in its youth. Decanted for an hour.

Black raspberry, baking spice, and black tea commingle, with a satiny mouthfeel and ample acidity. Doesn't seem terroir-driven, but well made and enjoyable nonetheless.

I bought this in 2011. Patience pays off. Lovely example of Rhone Grenache/Syrah. I enjoyed it alongside strong cheese. Wonderful.

2009 vintage

Not a typical Gigondas, brighter red in colour than is the norm, fruit forward berries on the nose and fresh fruit in the mouth not much acidity evident and little spice, well made as most wines from this source are and very drinkable, but nothing complex or profound in here rather simple. Still quite young in feel so maybe bottle age will give it a more Gigondas style, or perhaps this is simply a more modern approach ?

PnP and had with Pizza dinner. Outstanding out of the bottle, great rich and pure red fruit, perhaps a bit of spice. Full bodied and well balanced with a crispness that makes this go great with meals as well as just sipping.

The older i get the less i like the big in-your-face wines and the more i like wines like this grenache-syrah blend from Gigondas -- subtle fruits balanced with spice and lavender and licorice. Gigondas doesn't get nearly the attention that Chateauneuf du Pape gets, but is producing some incredible wines at good prices.

Served with grilled beef ribs, did not decant. Youthful, slightly fruit forward with moderate, somewhat astringent tannins and a good finish. Have frequently enjoyed these Gigondas from Perrin and this is no exception. Wish I had more of them.

Still a little tannic and sharp but still very enjoyable right now with a little heat. Medium body dark cherries light aroma. Saving my other bottle for another year or two.

Beautiful nose. Raspberry and blackberry. Tea and dark & warm spice follow. Not big or complex as expected, but very tasty and smooth. Was marked down to $22 from $36, so it was a steal. Little pricey at the top end price. PnP and it was good to go, no decant required.

Ripe nose of black and boysenberries as well as spice and a hint of smoke. Medium-full bodied and dense. Good tannic structure. Moderately tannic, but of very good quality. Absolutely delicious! Saw previous note and suggest you had a defective bottle. This is s very well balanced Gigondas and amount the best that can be done with what can prove to be a pig of a grape. Great layers of fruit, well structured wine. Great wine with roast beef.

4 hour decant. Soft and round textured wine in a friendly crowd-pleaser ready-to-go style. Aromas and flavours were summer-berry ice cream. Some might say that it perhaps lacks back-bone but I say that it is memorable, easy-to-drink and easy-to-like. This is a nice wine for sure. Paired well with parma ham.

Decanted an hour. White pepper, strawberry, raspberry, olive paste and hoisin notes. Structured and layered on the pallet. Round and smooth with a great finish. Tannin well integrated at this point. Right in its window. Drink now-2021.

Big, ripe nose, loaded with very/over ripe black and blueberries as well as copious quantities of alcohol. Some exotic Asian spices and potpourri as well. Medium to full bodied, with a fair amount of tannin as well as fresh acidity. Thick-textured and loaded with super sweet blue and blackberry syrups. Rich black cherry liqueur on the nose as well as Provencial herbs. Medium bodied and easy drinking. This is quite pleasant and still drinking very well, but it does seem as if the mid-palate and finish may be starting to fade. Drink now-the end of 2018. 88

Late Afternoon Wines (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)) : Very dark red color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes. Dark fruits, cedar, slightly savory, subtle damp earth, cassis, black plum. The palate is a touch jammy, black fruits, plum, cassis, firm tannins, a touch of heat early that settles down.

I wonder if some of the high 80s ratings are based on a pnp. Poured through aerator and then sipped slowly over time, this wine did not start showing its true promise for at least another hour. Polished hedonistic and wild. Big ripe blackberry and strawberry fruit. Smooth silky structure with integrated tannin. Black olive mesquite and pepper on the finish that is long and precise. This is aging beautifully and is showing much better then in its youth. Fantastic.
