This showed an easygoing charm from the off, with plenty of ripe blue and black fruit, underpinned by fennel and a hint of fenugreek. On Day 1 I found it just a bit one-dimensional, but on Day 2, given a short chill in the fridge, it gained interest and precision. Which suggests it still has a good life ahead, though there’s certainly no reason not to crack a bottle now.

A terrific showing, though teetering on the edge of volatility. Behind the hint of balsamic there was a firm core of predominantly red fruits, plenty of spice and an intriguing bitter/sour/fruity finish. Still quite a lot of clay-like tannins. Very lovely, from a cru that often sits outside the limelight.

At a produttori barbaresco horizontal tasting dinner at Ten Cases. A very different creature from the Pora tasted along side, it has an entrancing spicey entry, it is tauter and more compact than the Pora; it is complex and cool-fruited, very refined, perfectly poised and layered. A wine which oozes class

Jono B's Produttori 2007s (The 10 Cases, Covent Garden) : Dark and lovely, a class act from the get go. Open and inviting in a way that the Ovello is not, tempered with a spine of rock and tannin that reminds you what you have and that this will go the distance. I find that red cherry emerges with a swish, more delicacy here than I initially though, a fragility that is probably a figment of my imagination. Lovely wine, …

At a produttori barbaresco horizontal tasting dinner at Ten Cases. Fully resolved, rich, ripe and smooth on the palate with good acidity. It was not particularly expressive – it was drunk on its own and I think it would have benefitted from being paired with some food – nor complex, and is at, or just past, its peak, with early signs it is starting to dry out a bit

Jono B's Produttori 2007s (The 10 Cases, Covent Garden) : Same medium red colour as the others, but this is night and day versus the Pora. Could be a decade younger virtually, it has evolved glacially. Graceful and pure, higher toned, linear and balanced with a cool blue and red fruit signature. Gets better and better, especially in the larger of the three glasses. Splendid, I'd be pleased to have bottles left of this and there seems to be absolutely …

Jono B's Produttori 2007s (The 10 Cases, Covent Garden) : Medium red. Very savoury nose, leather, cherry and dried fruit. Feels like a sun-soaked wine. Light on its feet, tannin still observably present, like a lick of sandpaper on the edge of the tongue that gives the wine a bit of kick. Red fruit bias, still present but fading, in good shape you would have to say but one to drink up. That said, think about how impressive this is …

First bottle of 8 purchased in 2012. The wait was rewarded. This wine is glorious right now. Decanted for about an hour after opening, and it was singing thereafter throughout dinner. Fabulous, lively fruit, wonderful balance, layers of flavor that go on and on. Best Barbaresco I have had in many years. Full-bodied but not overpowering. This seems to be squarely in its prime, but could easily go for 5+ years. The QPR on this wine is unbelievable -- the …

Opened bottle and then method Audouze for 2-3 hours. Diskret smell of sweet fruit and touch of menthol. Taste is a little warm, with sweet mature fruit with an ounce of raisin and some mushroom after a while. Tannins are still there but they are not overwhelming at all. No need to wait longer for this one. Ready to drink now.

Diessenhofen, Wednesday evening, pairing with my Bauer wurst. Pop and pour. Medium ruby Color. Lovely nose - greenness, dark cherries, olives, dry roses, tar, light black pepper, mushrooms, wet forest floor. Med acidity, full body, high alcohol, Med flavor intensity, Med tannins and Med finish. Balanced mouth, love the greenness, mint, milk chocolat, with those nice light acidic cherries, lingering into those forest floors, mushrooms and truffles. Could linger a bit longer, bit this is a super nice and complex …

Very similar to the last bottle. Black fruit on the nose. There’s the same herby, liquorice aroma. Silky, with a bit of grip, still plenty of acidity and cigar smoke on the finish.

It’s ok. Better than the last bottle of wine I had of this vintage. I think I got a bad batch of these bottles though. There’s too much heat to it and the fruit leans toward the stewed type

Tasted at the Produttori with Aldo Vacca. Coravin pour. Medium garnet with some bricking. Nose is fragrant but more earthy than floral especially compared to the Muncagota tasted along side. Rich and chewy with some raison, sous bois, licorice and menthol. Still medium(+) acidity and tannin. Finish is long and gives a charcoal note. I would also say that the hot vintage of this cru should be drunk sooner rather than later as the wine did seem to be tiring …

From 1.5 ml magnum. Nose showed lots of saddle leather and earthy aromas, some subtle piney red fruit. Palate was very rewarding with earthy red and black cherry accented by leather and earthy notes that are perfectly balanced. The red fruit was still quite fresh and the tannin mostly integrated, but still slightly firm, giving the wine good weight and structure on the long cherry/earth flavored silky finish. Excellent Barbaresco, this larger format bottle easily could have made its 20th …

Ni elegancia n i sutilidad alguna. Una auténtica decepción este vino, ya que había puesto mucha ilusión en el mismo.

Cwilliams' note is spot on. I'd call it a few years over the hill. There's an initial brightness that's promising but it's overall quite dark, chewy and stewed. Doesn't have the tension or elegance I want from a barbaresco. Certainly reflects the vintage. Still OK if you drink it with some red meat tho.

Bottle definitely has peaked and on way downhill (for my palate). Brownish red color with slight meniscus. On nose, tar, tree bark, prune, dark cherry and tobacco. Fruit brighter on palate with sweet cherry, dried cherry, plum and earthy notes. Medium body, medium acidity and integrated tannins. Long finish. Enjoyed his more at age 9/10 than now. Dangerous admission - I like riper/richer vintages from Barbaresco. I like the fruit to overlay the tannins, making the wines pleasurable rather than painful. The 2007 Rio Sordo has a lovely overlay of cherry fruit that buffers the still strong tannins. It has weight to spare for further aging. There’s no risk of it drying out. At worst it will become an elegant dowager. At best it will retail a regal air, and also be engaging company for the entire …

On palate, similar flavor profile with sweet cherry noticeable as well. Medium+ body, medium tannins, medium acidity and very long finish. 93++ Loved this - didn't have the stewed fruit some Nebbiolo based wines get with age. Excellent. Ahhhh....si jeunesse savait!
