Still on excellent form. Served this in magnum for Sue’s birthday and there is still good fruit and acid. Last of all these Riesling and gruner bottle from 12 and 13. Like losing a friend

Oddly red fruited and waxy and candied. It’s not in a great place

Pronounced perfume with much complexity. And the palate is serene and perfectly languid, in a perfect place right now.

(splash decant right before dinner) gold colour with mild viscosity. petrol blew off quickly to regale a heady aromatic nose of ripe fruit (yellow nectarine and peaches), lime, herbal spice (ginger, tarragon and coriander), and honeysuckle blossoms. with smooth silky texture in the mouth, its concentrated layers of fruit wash over with subtly sweet, savoury, spicy and citric accents beautifully balanced by juicy acidity and a present minerality. extraordinary length that reprises the complexities. superbly elegant and an absolute delight. …

Makrut lime leaves grated over slate with a good dose of fresh green herbal tones as well. There's an underlying sweetness that feels derived more from dry extract than from fruit. The acidity is oak-softened and broad rather than incisive, but provides structure and lift throughout. Tender, not quite waxy texture crescendos into a peroxide salinity on the finish with some citrus zest and herby bitterness cleaning up. In sum: dry, textural, green, & powerful, bordering on magnificent.

D: The most fruity nose of all Rieslings (A-D). Still dominated by primaries. White peach, white blossom, grapefruits, hint of citrous peels. Bruised apples also noticeable, honeyed. Oily, med+ palate. Lots of richness, dominated by caramel, honey, bruised apples. Not as much fruits as the nose. Lots of texture, the most textured so far in fact. White peach, grapefruit peels, wet stones, lemon bitters still present, but more towards the back. Hints of nuts as well. More evolved palate, initially …

Showed poorly for a wine that I usually expect so much from. no botrytis at all left it fairly simple and waxy, not unlike some of the textures from aussie semillon. oak ageing did not build texture that has survived well. at the end of the day, simple.

Out of magnum, paired beautifully w Thanksgiving dinner. Aromatic, a hint of sweetness to the fruit (but not residual sugar), in perfect balance w acid to complement a rich dinner. Bravo!

A bit sweet when opened , firmed up a bit after an hour or so. After the sweet was blown off the fruity core of the wine dominated , excellent , well bred. Nose was steely , some petrol , 1st rate.

With a 20min decant, the acidity is quickened, and the wine comes to life. Buttery/oily notes along with subtle tropical fruits. The racing acidic backbone makes for a very appealing and mouthwatering experience. Really a tremendous wine that has a wide range of food combinations available: Asian food, north african dishes, sea food, light pasta dishes, quiche etc. These wines hold up really well over time, and the Gobelsburgs tradition range outclass their own gaisberg erste lage due to its …

Light yellow with a citrus, petrol nose. Peach, citrus, stone. Wonderful balance and structure. This is the best of the three bottles I’ve had over the years, suggesting age benefits this wine. Reaffirms why this is one of my favorite Austrian producers.

Just wonderful! Crisp citrus flavor that drys out on the finish. Just the right amount of sweetness. Nose is all citrus with a slight grapefruit scent. Dare I say that I like this as much as Prager? This wine strikes a fine balance between the Alsatian wines (Zind Humbrecht comes to mind) and most dry German Rieslings. It is certainly ready to drink, but I suspect will hold out well for several more years.

This is a wine I really expected to like, as I’m a big Gobelsburg fan. Big, rich, powerful, but though objectively it seemed to have good acids, for some reason it struck me as a bit ponderous. Broad profile with pears and peas, I at one point double-checked label to see that I hadn’t actually opened a GV. Not a wine I can say anything bad about, it just didn’t move me. B-

Definitely tasting great right now. Grand Cru style as others have noted here - less like a fruity, off dry German Riesling.

This impressed me so much. Kinda the best of both an Alsace and a German GG (= sec). Peaches and slate both with just enough acidity to balance it all out mid-palate to the finish. I must find some more of these over the Gruner which I usually seek out.

An oak aged Austrian Riesling in a grand cru tradition... Delicious. Bold riesling nose, with fruit, stone and complex aromas; full body and a long clean finish. Plenty of fruit left here, very good balance, and ready now but should hold for some years. Great QPR.

Medium gold in glass. Slightly sweet, very balanced with lots of minerals and smooth acidity for a complex drink. Should get better as sweetness is absorbed.

My last bottle, and I have to say I noticed an improvement since I drank the wine last. I felt it had an exceptional balance and elegance especially as related to acidity, residual sugar, and finish. This wine really showed its class when paired with food. It went particularly well with pozole rojo.

I followed this wine through an entire meal of numerous small courses, so it was faced with a wide variety of foods. It performed admirably with everything from a white asparagus dish, to a duck ravioli in dashi broth, even managing a decent pairing with foie gras. The richness of the wine played well with heavier dishes, while its resolutely dry style was a perfect foil for the lighter items. Peachy, spicy flavors, and a wide range of aromatics made …

New Year's Day Pork Shoulder and Grits Supper (San Francisco) : Medium yellow. Dry stone fruit and herbs. Weight somewhere between Federspiel and Smaragd. More vegetal than fruity in the mouth with average acidity. If tasted blind, I would have been more likely to guess Grüner Veltliner than Riesling.
