We held this one too long. Way past its drinking window. Poured it down the drain.

2001 vintage

Wine was surprisingly in very good condition. golden yellow color, no hint of oxidation (as in many of our 2001 Kistler chards), medium weight mineral laden apple & melon fruit flavors, medium length mostly mineral finish. Our last bottle.

Light gold color. Stiil fresh. Lemony. Went well with grilled Halibut.

Amazingly fresh at 14 years. Light golden color, light oak, light nose with butter. Kistler is the best Chard US has to offer.

Light golden color. Nose puts you right in the direction of a big Burgundy chardonnay of noble descent. Beautiful buttery nose, at first slight oxidative notes, blowing off some minutes later. Complex, well balanced. The whole range of yellow fruits and oranges, a variety of nuts, white chocolate, butterscotch. Good freshness. Nice bite, good finish. A very subtle old world type wine for Californian standards. Drink within the next 1-2 years.

I'm surprised this is the first entry for this wine but I'm happy to add it as it was a a great bottle. Probably at the end of its peak but tasting wonderful.... a deep golden color with nutty, butterscotch on the palate. Can't say I got much on the nose but it was a delicious wine. NONE of the oak that one associates with CA. If you have any, drink up.

Popped and poured; medium deep gold. Clean nose of rich tropical fruits: guava, peach, with a touch of honey. Quite heavy and unctuous on the palate with just enough acidity; this needs to be drunk but it quite pleasurable for the depth and fruit, although it tends somewhat towards too soft.

big nose of lemon peel, pineapple, pear. finish a bit short and dry. lacks the usual Kistler richness.

pretty sweet and ripe nose of butter, marmalade, straw, toasty oak, honey, marshmallow and lemon citrus. Yummy!

The nose was initially muted (or was it because of my diminished olfactory function that night?), but opened up to reveal minerals, toasty oak and apricot. The palate was ripe with slightly high acidity, and a little alcoholic.

What an interesting bottle of wine. It seems to have evolved into a old chardonnay, and lost some of it's structure, but at the same time, to have gained quite a bit of interesting complexity without sacrificing all of its overt fruit. The nose is good, if not spectacular, but the mouth is very, very good and quite interesting, with a slightly flat sense of orange tropical fruit and spices, especially cloves and green herbs. cellared sice purchased as well. This is why one should own a cellar. Kistler is always GREAT! This one i thought would be over the slope, but it was still hanging in. We had apricot halibut with saffron along with a whipped potatoe truffle. I wonder if finally I drank one right! It sure felt like it tonight.

Very full but still in balance; golden color, similar to the last bottle but perhaps a touch better in that the acid/fruit balance is more maintained. The Carneros vineyards that Kistler makes wine from (Hudson and Hyde) seem to maintain their fruit better with age in my experience.

Woodsy floral nose that leads to a wine with good body and mouth feel. Oak pretty integrated with no artificial vanilla notes. Some heat noticeable but its minor. Mainly hazelnut and lemon curd but there is also some carmel notes which indicate to me that this wine may be starting to slip a little. I would say it still has another year or 2 left.

Darker shade of yellow/gold in color. Not much on the nose but plenty going on with the palate. A hint of nuttiness, lemony citrus, stoney minerality and no oak showing. Very nice and much better to my taste when younger. Drinking nicely now and I don't see these getting any better.

Cellared since release. Gold with some green highlights; a bit darker than when younger. Intense and very well balanced on the palate; less aggressively oaky than some Kistlers, though with very good weight. Nutty and marzipan? like notes on the nose. Quite lovely though ready to be drunk. I think I like these better in their youth for the flamboyance of the fruit.

Much less intense and pronounced than prior bottles. Nice medium yellow color. But nose and pallet were very mild and thin. Not bad, but un-Kistler-like.

Well-balanced, with a building complexity as the bottle remained open over time, this botttle showed off lively tropical fruit, minerals, straw, citrus oil, with plenty of butter and a bit of oak.

Full golden color. Ripe peaches, golden raisins, honeysuckle flower note. Slightly aged hay scent. Very smooth. Minimal acidic bite. Well integrated. An outstanding Chardonnay.

Still very tasty but not likely to improve. Tropical fruit notes persist but are yielding to secondary nots of citrus oil and minerals. Acidity is stil greta. Sorry its my last bottle!

Smooth, rich, with well-integrated oak and butter notes, mild nuttines, and the flavor of candied citrus/citrus oil.

2001 vintage

Nice Kistler nose of white and orange tropical fruit and flowers. The mouth is a bit more subtle than I would have expected from a Hudson, but it's well balanced and viscous and mouth-coating in a very nice way, with a touch of roof-of-the-mouth acid. The length is long and heavy on the ripe orange citrus and citrus peel. A nice drinker now.

Showing well, and seems quite young. Decent nose, very rich and deep and balanced mouth, decent length. This bottle strikes me as typical for a Kistler Hudson - rich and deep and throaty but not particularly elegant.

I came home and found (to my horror) that my wife had pulled this from the cellar and opened it, and she had two ice cubes floating in her glass, because, "It wasn't cold enough", she said. Nice greenish yellow to the eye. Tart apple and pineapple notes on the nose and palate. A little butter and oak on the finish. Nice wine.

Somewhat disappointing, though I have almost no experience with high-end New World chard. A medium golden color and good weight. A certain richness, combined with a prominent lemon note and some minerals. Not a lot of mid-palate depth or complexity, and the finish is shortish.

This bottle held its flavor for much longer than my last bottle did. Very nice persistent fruit, even if the butter was too ephemeral. I've got one bottle left, and I'm going to get to it as soon as I can.

The Hudson is more viscous rich and fruit forward than all the other 2002 Kistlers I've had recently (Vine Hill, Dutton, McCrea, Kistler). Not a bad thing though. Nice accompanying notes of carmel corn. A tad too acidic for more than two glasses.

Odd tasting and flawed; woody; somewhat oxidized. My 2nd flawed Kistler in as many days, and a major disappointment. Must try another bottle again.

Elegant, subtle, reserved. Wonderful acidity. Came out of the bottle with a prominent but well-balanced butteriness that I quite enjoyed, but this soon faded and left a wine that was a little too nondescript for my tastes.
