Lively after 25yrs. Dry plum, dry fig, mushrooms, wet leaves, meaty. Nice balance and fruits still very much present. Modern in style which lacks the perfumed floral notes that I love from Barolo. Drink well now and should last for another 3-5yrs.

This is drinking well now - rose petal, dried flowers, plum and spiced and much mellowed tannin. Time to drink up though as the fruits are likely to fade from here.

Fully mature Barolo. Pretty heavily bricked on decanting but 3 hours later it was less so and clearly had a darker ruby core. Nose is effusive with rich black earth, truffles, a little game meat, rose petals and some spice notes along with just a touch of VA/acetone. Palate has just a trifle tannin left and a mostly smooth, rich mouth feel. Finish is long and earthy. Near end of life in the case of this bottle. Enjoyable with some …

Opened 6 hours prior to dinner. Medium+ ruby colored. Red and black fruits, flowery notes and smoke on the nose. On the palate, powerful note of Black cherries, plum, rose, leather, oaky spices, nutmeg and cloves. Full bodied, high acidity, medium+ tannins giving a whole freshness to the whole wine. Drinkable, would age definitely longer !

"The Last Supper" in Princeton (Chez Walker - Princeton, NJ) : Brought this out for the main courses...a 3L in my cellar that needed the proper event to open - a special event with great friends! Paired with Italian fare brought in from Gennaro's (traditional red sauce Italian). 2006 being a fabulous year for Barolo, I knew this would be in the beginning of its window. Decanted about 5 hours prior to serving. Some sediment as expected at the bottom. …

Decanted off the copious sediment about 3 hours before drinking, and it’s still opening up. It’s got a deep red core with bricking eating a cm into the wine. The nose has plenty going on, still some cherry fruit while it’s developing tertiary aromas and flavours, a bit leathery, some opulent spice, it’s floral in quite an intense way, a bit of chocolate, some heat is showing from the 14.5%. There’s some medium grain tannins showing still, I suspect they …

Lots of sentimate. Bricking and very feminine in taste. Nice older Barolo with old world taste I felt. Again near the end of its drinking window.

Dark brick in color. Initial whiff of VA which then settles to reveal intense balsamic aromas over dried cherries, violets, tar and iron. A very layered palate shows sweet macerated dried fruits, superb savory notes of balsam and iron, fully resolved tannins and oak, medium acidity and a long perfumed finish. This is very good!

Big change from our last bottle 21 months ago. This bottle was much further along - definitely mature. Brown-maroon in color, lots of leather, cedar, truffle, prune on the nose. Big wine but smooth, at first a little reminiscent of a port (but not sweet) but then spices, earth, coffee, iodine. Still has tannins. Great with Lasagna. Drink or continue to hold. Probably won't improve, but it will keep evolving for at least 5-10 years.

Perfect bottle, stored since released from Chadderdon's warehouse. Cork without any saturation. Tight on first pour. Within 10 minutes, showing the heat/ripeness of the vintage. Definitely needs a heartier meat dish to pair. Drink now, not going to improve with time.

Tasted blind. Pretty deep, dark color. Explosive notes of black cherries, blackberries, plum, oaky spices, licorice, smoke, but also some flowery notes. It‘s full-bodied, full-throttle and extracted, but with surprising balance for such a big wine, has medium+ acidity providing some freshness and the tannin is still medium-high. Good length. Not your typical Barolo pretty modern and extracted, but very delicious at this point.

From our cellar. Decanted....a ton of sediment. Beautifully clear, ruby color with a hint of browning. Mature nose of dried flowers, tar, spices. Silky, delicate texture, as tannins have mostly resolved. 14.5% alcohol is evident, but not obtrusive, and the palate consists mainly of secondary characteristics now... tobacco, earthy, mushroom, cinnamon, and stewed fruits. Highly enjoyable and great with food. Drink now-2025 if cellared properly.

Fully mature, throwing a ton of sediment. Slight prune on the finish consistent with a hot, overripe vintage. Good, but won’t get any better. Drink up!

Powerful but rather limited nose of nutmeg and clove, perhaps a bit of licorice, with just a hint of butterscotch from age. Beautiful, classic-Barolo deep color (color of bing cherry skin ... nothing else bing-cherry-like about it). Age-appropriate bricking on the edges. Profound palate gives the wine most of its appeal. Silky palate with ideal, soft tannins. Long, lasting presence, touch of sweetness, truly delicious and balanced. Drank in 2018, with the wine showing just the right amount of age. …

Decanted at 1:45 and returned to bottle after 20-30 minutes to be brought to a tasting and dinner. There was prodigious sediment in the bottle, this must be decanted. It looks older than I expected, medium garnet with a brick hue throughout. But wow the nose is so interesting, everything a mature Barolo should be...like picking up some rich black soil and sniffing it at first, then leather and cedar and spice. Palate is mostly faded of fruit (some may …

I like this producer but this bottle showed the limitations of a more modern style Barolo. Displays a medium red color with no bricking at the rim but fairly light color. No surprise then that the nose was all alcohol burn off, even after letting it sit in out for one hour+. It did turn around a bit at around the two hour mark with some nice cherry and cola elements with a finish dominated by notes prominent notes of …

Vertical of 1999, 2000 and 2001. Ruby with slight browning around the edges. Very perfumed in the mouth with lifted aromas of dried rose petals, candied red berries, hint of asian spices and forest-floor. Perfectly medium bodied with ripe crushed berries, nice silky texture, low acidity, no tannins and a long perfumed finish. Nice. Some felt it was better than the 1999, it definitely was the more feminine version.

Another poor show and this was an unrelated bottle to the others. We wonder whether this wine is now just off the cliff and paying for the mistakes of a much more open and forward modern childhood... really a poor show like the last 3

well, I said I wouldn't drink the last bottle for five years and I only waited three, but it wasn't a mistake, this was fantastic, great red fruit with a hint of sweetness, all balanced with smoke elements, med+ aggressive tannin, and med++ acid, and smoke on the palate... really nice and right in the sweet spot for drinking in my view, great on the pnp and great after an hour of air

Needs decanting off significant sediment. In a decanter for 3 hours and drunk over another 2 hours. To start the nose was all dark chocolate, it was more like a Grenache than Barolo but over time it revealed itself more. Seems like it's from a warm vintage and lost some of its typicity, but towards the end it felt, smelt and tasted more Nebbiolo. Good in the end and with food

Very grippy tannins that might be tamed with another 5-10 years. Decanted for a couple of hours and not much change. Nice underlying structure and fruit, but I'm not sure the fruit will survive the time needed to mellow the tannic grip.

Sampled over two evenings, with amazingly little variation. Restrained, simple nose of saddle leather and a touch of violets. A dense, hard-to-approach palate, with clipped, tight fruit and dominant tannins. I'd love to say it is a question of time, but I have had many shy Barolo that bloomed a few years later, yet enticed so little out of this 10 year-old.

Great wine. Coming from as modern a producer as this one, I was unsure as to what to expect now that it's hit 14 years; it did not disappoint - beautiful earthiness, tar, licorice, stewed fruits all very well balanced with some rounded tannins. Proof that some of the modern Barolo producers' wines can indeed age. I'd put this as a 5yr wine from this point on, so not something to lay down for a while, but I think a …

A very different experience than when we had this 3 years ago when we loved it (95 rated). Felt dry, acidic and out of balance so although had no obvious flaws per se it did not feel like the wine we met back then. We will reserve judgement for another day and not give a rating, but we would struggle to give it more than 91 this time round.

good but drank rt after the manzone gramolere '90 and it didn't hold up, in my view simply too young, plenty of mat'l (fruit tannin acid spice and floral elements) but tasted harsh and involved with some oak still unabsorbed, wait 5-7 years for next test

a classic dense barolo with a complex flavor profile. it opened up after about 40 minutes and was a pleasure to drink. not a light or low end effort. The Roul opened with an earthly nose to flavors of dried cherry, tar, and licorice. The wine has nice mouthfeel and had aged beautifully. The tannins had integrated nicely with the fruit over the years and the result is nothing short of pure pleasure. Maybe one of the best bottles of …

We put the 2000 and 2001 against each other. I agree with prior statements, the 2000 has matured more nicely and is perfectly balanced. The 2001 is a bit less terroir driven and a touch jammier. The 2000 is drinking exactly as I like in a wine. It's aged to a slight rust and thinned just a touch but with great fruit balance and sublime mouthfeel.

Nice big barolo. this wine is a baby. I though as a 2000, it would be a little more resolved, but compared to 3 other 200's that night, this was almost new! I think this has the backbone to last a long time. Such great balance, bursting with fruit and a glimpse into some of the earthy flavors certain to come out later in the evolution of this wine. I loved it!!

Weekend in Rome; 11/4/2011-11/6/2011 (Rome, Italy) : 30minutes of decanting Colour starting to show it's age. First nose has cocoa elements which develop into that beautiful cherry Nebbiolo notes and then finish with a violet driven floral bouquet. Kind of like a vastly toned down version of the 2000 Big'd Big. It was reserved from opening until I polished off the bottle three or four nights later. Nice enough Barolo flavors and structure, but I'm looking for more vivid expression from Barolo. Glad I bought more of the Big'd Big and Santo Stefano, and just two of these.
