2021 base. Raw and energetic. Medium texture with aggressive mousse. Loads of apples and raspberries. Long finish with gooseberries and red grapefruit. Balanced, but a few grams of sugar wouldn’t have hurt. Different but really, really good.

R17- funky stuff, still showing a lot of vegetal rot, cider, and volatile acid. Bummer.

Base 2019 Disg 11/22 Wood, oxidative... I can drink this forever. Love it!

Christmas Wimps 2025 - Teddy Ruxpin (La Trompette) : Magnum, 100% Pinot Noir, zero dosage, disgorged Feb 2020. My bottle. Deep straw colour. Dry, bready nose, with hints of Marmite and honeycomb. Less savoury on the palate, which was tense, tart and natural-ish, like cloudy lemonade. Clean, mineral finish. A refreshing and distinctive start.

Christmas Wimps Lunch (La Trompette, Chiswick) : A magnum. 100% Pinot Noir, zero dosage, disgorged 2020. Slight partridge eye pink hue to this. Frothy though it settled down. Bold red fruit nose, juicy, very linear but the fruits are quite ripe. Citrus, something slightly tropical. A hint of breadiness but only as it warms up. Very nice.

Xmas WIMPs December 2025 (La Trompette) : From magnum. Dg Feb ‘20. Zero dosage, 200% Pinot noir. Medium gold with a touch of pink, yellow plum with a touch of mandarin, a bit of oxidation on the nose, plenty of interest, the palate is very dry and linear, with a refreshing finish, a good bottle to start with

Sad this was my last bottle but happy I drank 2 this week with friends who, I knew would appreciate it. R14 version.

Clear golden. Great nose, yeast, autolysis, red fruit, anpple and mineral. Delicious dry apple and cherry flavours and a slightly sweet finish. This was the r14.

Base 2019. Disgorged 11/2022. Somewhat too natty and/or too much oak for me. In the future, would love to put this side by side with Marie Courtin’s Efflorescence.

Ittico, Verbania, Italy. Very competent Brut Nature. BdN Pinot noir with salmon colour to boot. Bruised apple, smokey elements, slate, ginger. Exhuberent Cote des Bars fruit.Very good.

Pronounced nose intensity with notes of wet stones, flora, ripe lemon. Medium+ acidity.

R/17, no good, battery acid, rotten flowers- better on day three under closure, notable VA. Bad bottle?

Easy drink but never trivial. Great personality. Crispy, fine bubble and floral with balsamic notes a t the end.

LC19, dis 22 Weird upon opening to the extent I was unsure if it was a flawed bottle. Anyway, gave it a good decant and it opened up beautifully. I really enjoy these. I have read here VS suggest decanting this themselves. Do yourself a favour and follow that advice!

"No Country for Old Champagne" (Chicago, IL) : 16-10-18/R15. From magnum. A bit too lean and green apple-y, missing the palate presence and weight for my palate, but refreshing, bright, and plenty of enjoyable acidity.

Presumed to be 2007 but this is before he starting using a bottle code. Absolutely beautiful mature champagne. Rich and round, just starting to show more brioche and nutty notes compared to young Fidele. Very happy that i have two more.

Good champagne for any occasion - completely organic. Good texture and persistent bubble. Nothing memorable but anyway good to share with friends

Stylistically not up my wheelhouse so the score reflects that, too autolytic for me.

Oxidative style. Ripe dried fruit and brioche on the nose. Medium-plus body with good complexity. Slightly past its peak, ready to drink.

2013 vintage

Pale yellow in color, this shows a beautiful nose of yeast and red berries on the get go. Crisp acidity, nice and fine mousse from the delicate perlage, green apples, citrus, very minerally and with a lingering finish. Blanc de Noirs but with a very unusual profile. Still young.

2017 vintage

Private Dinner 'At Home'. This wine is new to me and was a delightful surprise, 100% Pinot Noir and no dosage. It was disgorged in October 2019 being predominantly from the 2017 Vintage. The nose was all red apples, redcurrants, wild strawberries and brioche leading into a very structured Volnay like palate that filled the mouth and persisted beautifully. A very individual and flavoursome wine that extended beautifully in the glass.

Notably more developed than a year or two ago, with hints of mushrooms and lakeside. The fruit also appears somewhat riper, fuller and slightly more oaky than the initial impression in this vintage. For some reason this bottle was very feral (especially in the nose). Nice tart red fruit and mineral complement but a bit too funky compared to past experiences.

First go with the 2017. Disgorged Sept 2019, 100% Pinot Noir, no dosage. Apple, mineral, dried cherry and citrus. Then, retasted again towards the end of the meal and this had become more concentrated, crisp and a core of great flavors. This was my WOTN, both when it was served blind and when I did the retaste. Excellent.

Blind. Has a light oxidation to it and a medium weight with good depth. There's a savory note, almost herbal, which led me to believe that this was a Pinot Menuier. A little surprised that this was 100% Pinot Noir.

Mid-gold in the glass with a hint of pink - great colour. Very fine bead. A complex nose of peach, baked apple, lemon/lime sour, biscuits/bread, smoke, white pepper and minerals. A lovely mouth feel, nice tension, nervy, ultra dry, and a gentle spike - quite vinous and an oblivious pinot feel - very nice.

Clearly showing its age with some oxidative note/oxidation (I was not expecting this oxidation). Nutty (a little Krug note), mushroom, a hint of honey, yellow apple. Light effervescence. While I really enjoyed it, I thought the light oxidation made it a little flat.

Slightly oxidized with cranberry and mineral. Nice red fruit character.

2017 vintage

PnP, this 2017 disgorgement shows some of the citric, linear nature of the vintage. The nose is focused, with green apple skins, a little cranberry. To be honest, it’s hard to call as all pinot to me. Not a lot of spice or red fruit. Dry without falling completely victim to the no-dose austerity that can sometimes be a problem. Drink now

Citrusy nose with some minerals, brioche, chamomile, and lime notes. Similar flavors on the palate with quite high acidity, soft mousse, and distinct lemon notes. Good finish. Refreshing and pleasurable to drink!

This grew on me in the glass. 100% PN and no dosage. It has a good deal of complexity and slightly oxidative styling. Some tart and bruised apple notes, the wine improved with air over the course of a couple hours. Excellent medium-fine mousse, acidity, and structure. I don’t have any experience aging low or no dosage champagnes, but this feels like a winner.
