Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of light ruby colour with fading garnet rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of red fruit of cherries, strawberry and plum, sweet spice of clove, pungent spice of liquorice, floral notes of violet, maturity notes of mushroom. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, medium (+) tannin of ripe and velvety texture, the wine has medium alcohol, medium body and medium (+) intensity flavors of red fruit …

Upon opening this is more remincent of a St Joseph than a nuits. Dark, extracted colour - blind this would be difficult to pick as a pinot on this showing. Not exactly inelegant, but with time the alcohol creeps up over the dark and red fruits. I would drink this now

Drank over 2 nights - though by the second it was struggling despite being in wine machine vacuum. First night, we min after opening was best: depth with classic Pinot on the nose of black cherries and spices. Can be drank without food though food would do it better. One bottle left and will drink soon as nearing end of drinking window.

My tasting notes are a bit of a yo-yo on this wine. Thought last one was over hill, enjoyed this more. Wife really liked it. Perfumes nose, looks dense and heavy, but has pinosity to it- def burgundy. Had with wallaby for starter white fish second course and lamb for main- tasting menu. Having said that, would wait any longer - drink up.

My least favourite bottle from this vintage. All others been great but this was hard work. Maybe slight bottle defect - it wasn't corked. Burnt rubber the second night. Tannins to the fore.

Very good - same as last time. Aged burgundy has that depth and purity that is hard to find elsewhere. But it comes at a high price!

Somewhat disappointing. might have been the high expectations. Cherries, heavier pinot. Probably mid aged. Tannin's somewhat pronounced still. Some acidity. Def needs food - had with slow roasted pork. Good but not great.

Deep colour with noticeable purple; restrained nose; medium weight, fruity and racy. Very good indeed, but with the exchange rate of the Euro and Grivot deciding to hike the price of his wines I can't say this is particularly good value at over £50 a bottle en primeur. The Mugnier Clos de la Marechale, which runs it pretty close, is the better choice if finances are an issue. Estimated maturity: 2017+
