This was a fabulous bottle!. Classic fruit-filled nose. Garnet color. The full palate lingered for what seemed like minutes.

Just beautiful. Lots of fruit. Raspberry. Cherry. Really opened up about 30 minutes after uncorking.

This wine has a garnet colored center with a watery rim. The nose was packed with plums, cherries, cedar, minerals, and an oxidative, walnut note. In the mouth, this light-bodied wine displayed attractive red-fruits (cherries) that morphed into raspberries with air. Initially, it seemed to lack a mid-palate, but with air, the mid-palate improved but was never very impressive. Structurally, the acidity was elevated and somewhat prickly. The finish was a little short. Overall, I thought this was pretty non-descript …

Informal note. My first Humboldt County wine. Initially tasted at Woodenhead, and it stood out from the other [nice but] "standard" RRV Pinots. Dark ruby red, but still translucent. Dominant on the nose and palate was sour cherry, but after some time in the decanter, other notes opened up: Asian flavors (spice, soy), other red fruits. Tannic enough that my gf asked, "Is this really Pinot?" Quite nice. Wish I had another bottle.

Good nose and pleasant bottle of pinot but not as exciting as the Elk Praire from a couple years back that I was hoping this would match up to

Complex, cherry, alittle spice, let it open in the glass for about 45 minutes before tasting.

Very complex and interesting, lots of black fruit and spice along with a pronounced soy-rasiny note like the last one, but more powerful and unevolved, with a big dollop of oak on the finish. It still seemed as though it probably could have used a bit more time; recommended to hold it if you have it.

This is the longest hanging Pinot Woodenhead has. They apperently they pick it after thier zinfandels. Mint and dill, shows its wood again to me. The palate is not all that lively. I guess I don't quite see it at $38.

Crisp red fruit- cherry, cranberry and red currant, with lots of asian spice. Along with chalk and mineral on the finish. Posseses good natural acidity and structure and will probably improve with some age.Is really a unique stlye, shows that there is terrior in california Pinot. Drink now-2013. 89 pts.

Opened not decanted. Purchased off the list at the Wood Tavern in Oakland. Raspberry, licorice and spice on the nose. Starts out with dry spice, morphs into raspberry with rounder red fruits; ends with a citrus finish. Good.

Outstanding first Woodenhead Pinot, not to mention first Humboldt wine. Snobbish skepticism quickly gave way to borderline amazement, as the wine opened up over several hours to reveal great depth, complexity and class. Color was a somewhat darker ruby, but definitely with that translucent Pinot beauty to it. The nose was a bit shy at first, but fairly soon some black raspberry and an intriguing soy sauce note emerged. Later, the complexity was really impressive, yielding something different with every …

Tasted at the winery. Quick notes: smoke on the nose; tart cherry fruit with some toast and a very dry finish. Just released. A little too primary for me to get a good feel, but I was tempted to buy. I would like to revisit in a couple of months. Could be quite good.
