Domaine de Vaccelli Ajaccio Granit

Aromatic. One can easily mistaken for Pinot Noir from Napa. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of mushroom, truffle, roses, flora and red cherry. Finish is medium. Medium acidity and medium tannin.

First time with a red from this producer, maybe we drank this way too young — at this stage it’s drinkable but unexceptional. Excessive acidity makes this unbalanced. Label says 15.5% alcohol which was surprising, but maybe that contributed to it feeling disjointed.

Rich and deeper in flavor than many good Sciaccarellus. Acidity is nicely balanced, and at 15.5% it doesn’t come across as hot. Cherry, lemon, and cranberry on the nose. Cranberry, flower petals and spice on the palate. This is a contender for the best Sciaccarellu I’ve had in Corsica.

Etrangement un peu plus serré qu’il y a 4 mois, ça sentait bon mais la bouche était un peu stricte… il m’a paru un peu trop jeune cette fois. Mais diablement prometteur!

Superbe fraise, petites fleurs des champs, gourmand et flatteur au nez, bouche un rien serrée mais fraîche, tellement digeste qu’on ne sent pas les 15° d’alcool (servir à 17°). Subjectivement 93…

Needed 30 minutes open. Suprisingly light touch, but good red fruit. Decent depth. Perhaps a bit underwhelming considering hype for these? Lacking some character, but this is young.
