Various narrow escapes from the cough syrup I associate with New England hybrid reds Upon opening: an implicit frizzante saves the night Days 2&3: just enough acidity and tar & on 4: spice, effectively impersonating good wine This wine contained 15% alcohol I would not want it to contain 15.1% alcohol If you just happen to have a bottle of 2014 Perdrix Nuits St Georges somewhere around the house, and are of a sacrilegious bent, the flesh of the Nekeas …

A perfectly acceptable table wine; surprisingly pleasant to the palate, with some complex notes.

A bit of Spanish funk at first which blows off. Still young and I will hold off trying another for a while.

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs -semi-opaque dark red, no bricking -subtle red fruit grenache, floral -med acidity, med weight/concentration, faint red fruits and licorice, medicinal, med- tannins -pleasant if not extremely interesting, appears to be in a peak drinking window

Not decanted, consumed over ~2 hours. Pretty consistent with my note from 2/14/2014 - dark, dense, and structured for a grenache at this price point. A little more oak showing than I remember, perhaps, but it wasn't too distracting.

I must not have made tasting notes when I last had this, but luckily I remembered how much I liked it and snapped some up again when it became available. This is lip-smacking stuff, right down the gullet grenache, great on a weeknight. Last night had it with lamb chops, but you could go all kinds of ways with it. Strawberry, a little spice, smokiness. I should buy more!

Not decanted, consumed over ~1 1/2 hours. My notes from May and September 2013 still ring true: this is darkish, fairly densely-fruited grenache with some peppery notes and enough acid/tannin structure to bring it into reasonable balance. This bottle showed a smoky aspect I don't recall in the ones from last year, and it also made me think it would have benefited from a decant. Good value at ~$13 if you're looking for something with a little heft.

Not decanted, consumed over 2 hours. This has come along a little bit since my 5/28/2013 note. A bit on the darker side of grenache, especially in its price range - dense red berry/cherry fruit with a nice spiciness and plenty of acid integrating well. Maybe no special complexity to the fruit, but this is shaping up to be everything you could hope for from a grenache of this style in this price range. 89-90, and ready to drink now …

I really love this wine but 96 points! No way. And I have to say those first two bottles, which I failed to rate, were better than the third. For $12 or so, this was wine bargain of the year in 2012 for me. I see this fading now, but it might be fun to buy a couple if they were around and see how they are over the next six months. For sure an easy wine for parties, casual …

Blue and red fruits, with some brambly earthiness. Could have been mistaken for a good Zinfandel. Great with pizza.

Not decanted, consumed over ~1 1/2 hours. This comes across as very young at first pour - slightly purple, forward acids, dominated by notes of ripe tart strawberries. Over its time in glass, this calmed down and gained balance, with complimentary spicy notes coming forward to join the fruit and acid. I'd say this needs air and/or age, but it does have some promise. Taking that into account, 88ish for now. Update from Day 3: The fruit and acid have …

These old vine Garnacha grapes impart a lot of complexity for the price. Medium depth of color which is ruby purple. Aromas of bright red fruit and a touch of the forrest floor. On the palate, fresh strawberries, tart red berries, white pepper and a nice mineral streak. Finishes well with the softening tannins giving a support to it all.

Deep ruby color. Blueberries, violets, and spice nose. Blueberries and spice come through on the palate, with enough structure to keep going. Long finish.

$14.99 full retail. Intriguing spices on the nose - sage? Notes of cocoa, sweet, dark fruit and herbs. Finishes with a chocolatey-oaky note (though the person who opened this thought it saw no new oak). The flashy / oaky quality seemed to calm down with time open, and the spices came to the front. Nice, if not exactly my style of wine - I preferred a similarly priced bottle of Cotes du Rhone (2004 Clos du Mont Olivet Vieilles Vignes …
