Magnum. Corked - Ugh. Underneath, a gorgeous wine with beautiful fruit and acidity is still readily apparent.....but, the cork. ugh.

Wow! I thought the bottle might be dodgy but it was wonderful> A slight touch of oxidization, but so light as to bring out the maturity without being disturbing. Light on bubbles.

80's Bordeaux (Friend's house) : Another '96 champagne that is drinking super young. Hard to tell that there is any age here actually although it was poured from magnum. Good bubbles. Very crisp. That low dosage style. It's a nice champagne although I'd say in the more moderate category. Hoping it does add some heft with time, but we'll have to leave our other bottle to age I think.

Hyggligt vin. Tydliga mognadstoner men överraskande svag syra för att vara en 1996:a. Gissade att det var en prestige från ett enklare hus men trodde att den var äldre, kanske en 1989:a.

Beautiful mature palate with lots of tertiary notes. Still a very fine and elegant perlage. Drinking amazing right now.

Quite mature and ready to enjoy. Light yellow in color and small/week bubbles which persisted throughout. Quite high on acidity as per the vintage. Very rich and lingers long in the mouth. Green apples, lemon and lots of minerals. Well made as usual but their ´96 isn't their best vintage. Difficult in many wines with the acidity.

Pretty, elegant champagne showing well now. Floral, subtle without being austere, just lovely. 92-93

Josh Kurek's birthday bash (Somewhere way the fuck out on Long Island) : From Magnum. Very bright and sharp. Very 96. A nice contrast with the 04 Vilmart. Nose of lemon, minerals and powdered stones. Very focused on the palate with lemon, saline, stones, yeast. This is a fairly light champagne that grabs you with it's acid and cut. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 16.5/20.

Farewell to Josh - the burbs have him now. (L'Artusi Restaurant, West Village, Manhattan) : From magnum, brought by Josh. Lavish nose of white flowers, white chalk, mature notes of some yeast, apple, pear. Brioche and toffee come out later. Sweet and bready on the palate with a brioche core, creamy, malt balls. Great lift and acid with a tight soft mousse. Focuses with a core that shows towards the end of lemon an tangerine fruit. Just fabulous on the …

Sending Josh off to the 'burbs (l'Artusi, NYC) : Straw. Big sweats socks nose at first, then settles down to yeast, brioche, and Madagascar vanilla; lovely! The palate is superbly balanced, velvet mousse, and fine but reasonable acidity (1996 can be brutal, still); excellent length, or even better -- it is really, really long. Later, a little green tobacco, candy cane. Delicious wine! Already a contender for WOTN... (From magnum)

From the estate`s own vineyards, the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in this wonderful bubbly evolved in the glass from something good to something excellent; I loved its somewhat sweet lemon flavor topped with a hit of pepper.

Light yellow color. Medium, fine bubbles. Nice mousse. Still a bit closed. More potential hidden. Citrus, pear(Calvados), dough, chalk. Medium aftertaste.

Interesting, citric, light young but lacking depth of fruit... a nice bottle for $80/bt but I'm not convinced that it merits the new price tag. Classic aperitif fizz, but Krug NV it isn't.

I found this not nearly as fresh. Yeasty, appley, but flat. One person thought it was just being a grumpy adolescent. But while I caught no sign during dinner, a sip as I was putting stuff away seemed to show trace TCA NR

Still so young, fresh and straight laced, nice light gold colour with plenty small fine bubbles, very minerally/chalky taste almost overpowering the fruit.

Groundhog Day! : Popped and poured. Pale yellow color. The nose gives a delightful expression of fresh fruit and mineral with a slight note of oxidation. Tastes much more rustic than the DP Oeno. Flavors start slower, but build nicely throughout the taste and delivers a surprisingly good finish, ringing out longer even than the DP Oeno. This is excellent wine, but a pretty significant drop-off from the DP Oeno in terms of flavor intensity and elegance.

Tasting Group Dinner - It Was A Great Run (Heidi's, Minneapolis) : Tasted alongside the '95 Dom Oeno (see TN), the Pommery was much more tight and structured. Tense, reticent citrus fruit, chalk, and mineral, with a steely edge. The mousse is coarser and brawnier than the silky-smooth Oeno. The flavors build to a long, bracing, clean finish. Needs a few more years, at a minimum, to round into form.

90+; Medium gold color; Citrus and pear fruit with light honey flavors. Medium bubbles and mousse and rather light on acid. This bottle seemed somewhat light on structure for a 96 high-end cuvee. Finally a good bottle of this champagne - all of the previous bottles were either corked or somehow compromised.

Drucken i fint sällskap så kom kanske ut lite fel. Korrekt, lite ung, fina syror, lite plåtsmak. En del frukt. Ingen som stod ut men var i alla fall inte korkskadad som den förra jag drack.

0-3. Slightly corked. If not corked there was an off note to it. It did not smell corked but there was a TCA note on the finish. It might have been good without the TCA. Purchased from Grapes the Wine Company, NY.
