Cherry and bandaid on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, raspberry, and notes of bitter tobacco, earthy spice, and strawberry on the medium to long finish, with light tannins and strong acidity. This is somewhere in the middle of its drinking window, with several good years ahead of it; the Cellartracker drinking window is at least a few years too short. This was an excellent value at about $40.

Menthol, cherry. Fairly rich mouth. Long, clean finish. Really well balanced, but I think this needs to open up a lot more for any complexity to come through. Will revisit in an hour from now.

Strawberry and camphor on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, blackberry, and notes of tapenade and leather on the medium finish, with moderate tannins and strong acidity. Medium plus to full body but not heavy. Quite smooth and elegant. Black fruit and soft licorice notes with mid palate acidity and barely noticeable tannin on the finish. Maybe peaking at this point. Suggest drinking what you have in the next year or two.

wow, hate to be a dissenting vote here, but this is not great. Having worked through all my 97s, 99s, and some of the 01s, I have started to forage into my 04s. Subdued nose with dark fruit and maybe a bit of licorice. In the mouth, seems a bit monolithic with black cherry, rusty nails, and black olives. EtOH heat is a bit intrusive. There is a rusticity here that just tastes somewhat unclean and removes what I love …

This is a velvet mouthfeel like experience with round blue fruits set within a restrained tannin and balanced acidic wine. The depth of fruit is there and they are quite present given the allowance afforded by lacking acidity and tannin. All is all better then most.

Decanted for 2 hours. As good as the previous bottle (2/2/16). Initial nose of cigar box and cedar. Palate of dark red cherries, black tea, and chocolate. Medium+ body with more than enough acidity to keep it bright. Medium finish and a great accompaniment to the evening's pasta bolognese. Ready now, and should hold for at least a couple of years.

Give it 90 minutes in the decanter and it opens like a flower with a lovely tannic nose . Excellent now but a few more years in the cellar is the way to go. Grade of A- tonight.

Drinking well now. Still a bit austere when opened up but after an hour the delicious fruit came out of its shell. Probably still got a couple of years ahead before it needs drinking, but definitely not a problem to drink it now!

Very lively acidity for a 12 year old wine. Subtle dried red cherry and a little floral action. Very long and dry finish. Natural match with meatballs and sauce.

Tight upon opening--needs at least one hour in the decanter (watch for sediment). Initial nose and palate were of leather and tobacco. Took 1 to 1 1/2 hours for the dark red cherries, black tea, and chocolate to appear. Medium+ body with more than enough acidity to keep it bright. Medium finish and a great accompaniment to the evening's veal roast. Ready now, and should hold for at least a couple of years.

Dark brownish color. The nose has a strong black cherry initially, but then offer oak, followed by licorice. Medium bodied. Excellently structured with a bold, dry presentation. Really nice earthy Brunello. I would say that it's mature at this point but not over the hill. Those who have been holding this bottle as I have may wish to consider drinking it with a veal dish as I did tonight.

Dark in color for Brunello. Relatively fruit forward but without the heavy oak that accompanies such Brunellos. Dry still with some tannin. Was still very good on day 2 indicating a longer life.

Even without decanting, this was very approachable at this point. Color has leather tones, fruit is still very much in balance with acidity. Great value.

Pleasant nose of licorice, dried leaves, and cherry. For the first 1.5 hours, the palate was bland, with some acidity but very little fruit or other flavors. After spending time in a decanter, the palate opened up with juicy sour cherries followed by a moderately tannic finish.

Decanted 2 hours but could have used 4. Really tight at first but came around to show tobacco, earth, mushroom on the nose that transitioned to the palate. Drying, chewy tannins. A wonderful pairing with braised short ribs and ciappino. Hold for another 2 years if you can.

Another night of Italian wines with friends (Downtown Cleveland) : Out of Magnum. Actually drinking better than I thought, but certainly could use more time. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has cherries, dust and chocolate (makes me wonder about Merlot). Very nice, but did start to shut down with air. On the palate, this is really nice. Cherries, more chocolate notes. It is round and could use a bit more acidity. Worked well with food.

A decent/good Brunello but one that somehow never quite hit the real heights - a hint of smoky black cherry but a tad light and rather short on the finish

Piancornello can always be counted on for delivering traditional Brunello. There is a beautiful bouquet of floral and red berry notes on the nose that is followed by intense blackcherry on the mid palate. The finish is quite savory and could be likened to red meat. Very good stuff! Cheers!
