Glass: Zalto Bordeaux Popped and poured, drunk over three days. Clear, youthful lemon color. Expressive, stony nose, with some fine tobacco leaves. Deep, fine and beautiful. Served next to 2010 Abts E. The 2017 Abts E is a super intense and grippy Riesling. Lean, acid driven and very austere, at this point in time not very well balanced, with overwhelming acidity. Typical Keller nose of nectar, citrus fruit, vanilla powder, pineapple, mashed pears and crushed chalk. Palate is only stone, sea shell, salt and sour lemon/grape. I've left this as NR, as I've had great aged examples, but it's quite difficult to drink at the moment.

A private dinner (Restaurant d'Oude Schuur, Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium) : Tasted blind. Rather monolithic, young, playful acidity, hint of wax, concentrated and powerful but closed on the chalky nose, manages to be both linear and glossy, very convincing finish. Will need many years to re-emerge from its slumber. Score based on potential.

Beautiful nose of white peach, citrus, minerals, and a slightly flinty note. There’s a lot of complexity and nuance. On the palate, there’s a ton of acidity, tart peach, lemon, and minerals. Very long finish. A fantastic wine, very acid driven at the moment. I suspect this demands another 5-10 years and will be even better then! 96++

Saturday riesling and farewell (Chicago, IL) : A significantly different wine compared to the 2018. They share the same mineral and acidity structure, but where the 2018 has fruit to put on that skeleton, the 2017 is a barebones exposition of the raw structural power of riesling. Dry Riesling on the rooftop (logan square, Chicago IL) : Where the nose on the Kirchspiel was jubilant and intense, this showed off the tropical citrus but in a more enveloping way. Stunning punch and intensity with aromas of mature citrus and wet stone. Also a mineral nerve that impresses. Lovely full-bodied and complex wine. Great citrus fruit that impresses. Perfect freshness of the wine with wonderful minerality on a long and vigorous finish. Of course this is very young, but in a good way it charms all the way. Fabulous! 96 points.

SLDS April 2019 : White florals, slate, chalk, sea spray and honeydew melon. The palate is explosive, with incredible intensity and acidity. Deep and long with exceptional energy and verve. Stunning wine.
