I am pleasantly surprised with this wine - it was excellent. slight bricking, integrated tannins, leather, cedar, and vibrant red fruits. This wine is drinking excellent right now

Starting to reach maturity. Displays a dull, deep ruby color. Spicy red currant, ripe black cherry, savory plum, drying tobacco, creamy dark chocolate, green undertones, and mulch infused earth. Completely integrated, well balanced, and tasty. Very ripe. Medium plus finish. Did well with the Salisbury steak. If the structure can maintain, this should cellar through 2027+.

Pleasantly surprised. ‘97s have been fairly consistent as they’ve aged (not sure they’ve reached the hype of expectations, but some have), and this being a low-barrier to entry purchase from a reputable producer made it an easy choice to acquire. Followed over a few hours from bottle and it held strong. Faded color with the red core starting to dull. Quick whiff of some VA, but it dissipated quickly. Aromatics of old pipe tobacco, fig and brambly red fruits. Old …

Dried chili pepper, fresh cracked black pepper, dried tobacco, menthol, prunes and raisins on the nose. Medium + intensity of aromas, which change to high intensity after an hour in the glass. This smells like everything I look for in aged Califronia CS. The palate adds smokd meat and tomato leaf, and brings the fruits back to life a bit. They're fresher, and black cherry and blueberry flavors are added. Medium + intensity of flavors. Even so, the nose is …

88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot; 22 months in French oak, 65% new. Stood for 2 weeks, decant (2hrs.) for large and small sediment. Fragrant on opening. Nose of cherries to start with some fine perfume leading to layers of dark fruit. Cherry, currants and a touch of licorice to begin. Overall a fine Napa cab just coming into it's own. After an hour or so in the glass, some bracing tannins begin to show, a welcome addition. Long life ahead …

Tasted thin and acidic when opened. Decanted, finished half at supper, closed and left overnight. At supper the next day, absolutely delicious. Soft, some tannin remaining, superb with grilled steak.

Highly recommend, especially for lovers of big Napa cabernets. 100% cabernet sauvignon. Poured at a wine education event for a group of nurse practitioners that Kim & I hosted after a medical talk I gave. Mature and peaking. Drink or hold - drinking well right now and right now I would recommend at least a 60-90 minute decant but with proper cellaring this has years to go and may well hit 94 points+. A good QPR wine at our acquisition …

This has been better. There was a strong rubbery flavor that I hadn't detected in previous bottles, the acidity is still quite high, and the flavors haven't opened up at all. I am hoping that this is a difficult adolescent stage and so will leave my other two bottles in the dark for another few years.

Dark ruby with slow legs. Cherry and blackberry on the nose. Moderate mouth feel. Cherry, plum, dark fruit, and spice on the palate. Almost no tannins. Cherry and spice on the moderately long finish. The bottle improved over two hours (and then it was gone!). Nice treat for Christmas dinner.

Terrific wine. Drinking so well right now in Dec 2020. Decanted an hour and drank over the next 2. Intense Nose of dense blue and black fruit, some Secondary herbs/sweet spices, and wet earth. It is showing primary, secondary, and tertiary flavors. Smooth, soft tannins, and the concentration is very impressive and it’s a full bodied, mouth filling wine. I love a good Groth reserve, but this isn’t far behind in its complexity at half the price. we Paired with …

We opened this as a late-night and perhaps unnecessary Thanksgiving wine, and it seemed thin and green. So we poured it back into the bottle and drank it the following night. It still had the green notes but was more coherent and satisfying. (If you want a rich, fruity California Cab, open something else.) Drinkable now -- though we would advise a long decanting -- and it may continue to improve with age.

It’s interesting to read other reviews as I don’t have a previous bottle to compare this to. I tried it at the winery several years ago and I don’t recall it tasting like it does now. Currently it’s got a significant musty tone with leather and smoky notes. I don’t remember it being like this, and while it’s still very drinkable, it’s not the profile that I like from a Napa cab. I agree with some others that I believe …

Wholly unimpressive. Had this at the winery back in '14 and bought this bottle then. Whatever I gave this back then, that was its peak. This has gone down hill big time.......unimpressive fruit, unimpressive depth and length, too. I guess it could just be shutdown, but I probably would give this away to some unsuspecting neighbor if I had any left........

dark garnet color. Nose herbal ... perhaps a bit green ... but also showing dark fruit. Medium body, showing more acid than tannin. Suspect it might have been acidified back in the day given the texture. Drinkable, but not particularly attractive. I like old Napa cabs, but this one is drinkable but not memorable.

This is a wonderful wine that is still drinking well 19 years later. Rich and earthy, with complex herb, currant, sage and cedar oak notes that come together nicely finishing with a nice long aftertaste on the palate. I would say it still had a few years left. The most difficult issue was the cork despite decent storage on it's side had a very dry cork that required decanting through my mesh strainer but still tasted wonderful with a nice …

I had the occasion to try a number of 100 point wines a few days before having this wine. This one blew all of them away, even though it was not the Reserve. Most of the tasting notes suggest it is beyond its prime, but the bottle I had was struttin' its stuff! Earthy, with lots of chocolate and coffee on the finish.

Opened on Christmas eve, this classic '97 showing deep reds and medium weight. Nose of pencil shavings, graphite, licorice, menthol, camphor, espresso, dusty iron and rust, maybe a little barnyard and slightly corked, but blew off. Neutral and resolved, there's some fruit here still but it's very subdued and on the tart, sour cherry side. The secondary flavors definitely more prominent. Very solid structure, good on day two as well. Certainly in drinking window, can't see improvement from here. Lots …
