Constant Syrah Diamond Mountain Vineyard

consistent with previous notes, needs a couple hrs to open up. Old school meaty Syrah. Still might improve.

Enjoyable, rich Syrah, long finish. great at auction price, but nothing special at $100. Might improve still.

After reading MC2's note, opened a bottle to see what's up. Agree, needs a good decant before sipping. Very hot and unsettled. Saved 2/3rds of the bottle to try again tomorrow night. Not sure what the future holds. Day 2 - much better, very typical Napa Syrah, heat gone, nice flavor profile. If scoring, 91-93.

I'll admit I was torn between the 'I like it' and 'Neutral'. When opened this was like a gangly colt where it couldn't quite find it's way. The fruit was overpowering and the acidity didn't feel like it had held up and next to a Cayuse Camaspelo this was just over the top and not as well done. Then it had prob 45-50 minutes in the glass and by the last sip I would say it was starting to come …

Decanted over three hours. A rich and stunning Syrah with tannins that let you know they are in town. Without a doubt, the best Syrah I've had to date. If you like Petite Sirah or Cabernet Sauvignon, this is your wine.

I enjoy Syrah across a variety producers. This one is interesting. It has that tell-tale fruit of syrah and being from Constant, the Diamond Mountain terroir comes through as a liquid black volcanic stone opposite the heavily extracted fruit. Sadly, this wine is $80 and I think most Rhone CdRs (and certainly CdPs) as well as many Languedoc syrah producers would be at least as solidly produced for about 1/4 to 1/3 the cost.

Continue to really enjoy this wine. It's a bit less deep and intriguing than the Cabernet that we had alongside, but enjoy the hints of spice with the fruit. Unfortunately no very detailed notes. Enjoyed with some hanger steak and ribeye and both were an excellent pairing.

Winorama with a surprise (engagement)!; 9/15/2013-9/18/2013 (Napa Valley California) : Like the Cabernet, it's blackberries that predominate on the first taste. It feels more like the full blackberry bush here though - with stems and leaves. Took a bit of time to open up and there's no shortage of tannins in it. Very earthy and deep but clearly needs some more years.

Opened and drank over the course of two days. Ran through a Vinturi before drinking. Nice deep red fruits - can taste bright cherries and ripe strawberries with just a touch of earthiness. Bit more sediment then one would expect with a relatively young wine, but did not impact the enjoyment. Wine comes across more subtly then some other California Syrah in a nice way. Paired with a chili chocolate and that combination worked relatively well.
