Domaine Lamy-Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Jean

Third and last bottle... And this was the best one. Medium intensity exotic fruits. Impressively acidic with some oaky bitter finish. With additional time the wine stays on the medium fruity level but the acidity is really excellent. Furthermore the wine now has a very smooth and moderately creamy body while the oak bitterness disappeared. This one could easily go another 10 years with this level of acidity. So that means there is quite some bottle variation.

Second bottle ... This one was in even better condition. A bit more fruity and fresh. On the nose a bit more pineapple and honey. Again quite fresh, dry with impressive acidity and a bit of oaky bitterness. Left open to breath for a few days and it became more precise. Overall I wonder if it was more fruity some years ago and the fruit started to decline before the acidity did or if it was just a that kind …

First out of three… got them rather cheap and the bottles smell like really old cellar and the label has a bit of mould. Cork is intact and seems even rather healthy. slightly muted bouquet with hints of honey and an exotic fruit profile a bit creme brulee this wine is quite puzzling on the one hand side it feels still quite impressively fresh but at the same time rather light footed one of the „weakest“ Montrachet I ever had. …

Vivid fruity notes of Apple and Lemon, hints of honey and petrol, very present vanilla notes, clean on the nose, full bodied and fresh taste that balance well with the ripe notes, I’d say it’s over it’s peak as the high alcohol content is very present and overshadowing the experience for me, family recognized it as a special and festive wine though
