Castro Candaz, Ribeira Sacra, A Boca Do Demo

Initially, this was a good but somewhat generic post-modern red -- high acidity, integrated tannins, crunchy red-fruit flavors -- that made it refreshingly tasty but not special. Over two nights it showed occasional flashes of more richness, and it ended up with a strong black-pepper character, so moving from a Grenache-like profile to something more like Syrah. I think it will become more interesting with more time in the cellar.

Not so different from when we tried it a few months ago: dark red fruit (more brambly as it ages), some gamy notes, and definitely reminiscent of a Cote rotie - although this is a bit lighter on its feet than many syrahs. The finish goes on for what seems like days—savory, gamy, and smooth. DEELISH.

Terroir-istes International - Spain, Galicia (Overgaauw Wine Estate) : (Tasted Blind): A mid-crimson colour towards a slight orange rim, indicating some maturity. The nose offers savoury nuances with violet, fresh earth, blue fruits and peppercorns. There is almost iron bru or blood-like quality lingering on the bouquet. 2017 vintage

Dark red, nearly opaque. Aromas of licorice, blueberry, and pepper. Palate has spicy mulberry and plum notes with some currant/raspberry lurking in the background. This harmonizes with 30 minutes in the glass and gets better. The finish is medium. Not much change in this since it shed its baby fat. Drink or hold.

Holding aside the fact that I will try anything Raul Perez has a hand in making, this is a lovely wine. In some ways, it reminds me of a Cote-Rotie, with a slightly gamy undercurrent to dark red fruit and spice. The wine is losing its earlier fruitiness and becoming more savory.

Medium purple. Cherry, blackberry, minerals, earthy, violet, white pepper. Medium+ acidity, medium tannins, dry, medium body, decent length. Leaves somewhat balsamic vinegar aftertaste.

Not sure if this wine is past it's time, or just shut down now at four years old. Elegant cherry and spices. Something earthy but shy too. It's beautiful but something's missing. Good thing I have two more bottles!

Plum Market Luxury Tasting (Bad Hunter - Chicago IL) : Walk around tasting. Old vine intensity with Whole cluster spice character. Good weight followed by bright, long finish with enticing textures. Good now in an old world style, upside from here.

Bright red cherry fruit, youthfully fresh and earthy, some tannic grip on the finish. Good flavor but would probably improve with 1-2 more years, though drinking well now after 1-2 hours in a decanter. Notes based on second tasting, as initial tasting notes were greatly flawed, as there may have been some taint in the glass from prior wines with heavy oak influence.
