Copse Christmas drinks (Copse) : A step up from the same producer's 2019 Saint-Véran served before it. Very attractive and enjoyable, with more interest.

Even more reductive and quite monolithic in the house style with high extract and a honeyed finish.

PNP into Spiegelau Definition Universal glass (“No” day): Pale lemon golden to the eyes. Citrus fruit and secondary notes driven on the nose. Crisp but not exactly high acidity, high extraction and medium weight on the palate. Bitterness on the finish. Classic and very complete style in a nice manner. 94 points.

Light yellow in color. Initially reduced which with time in glass blows off to reveal yellow citrus, hint of lemon grass, white peaches and florals. Palate shows off sweet orchard pit fruits like ripe peach, citrus zest, spices, good acidity and a powerful finish.

This "humble negociant wine" is anything but, what a stunner. Since my last note this has continued to develop, and now surpasses Combes. Wonderful body, texture, long finish. It probably sounds crazy, but i continue to get 90's Leflaive vibes from the 2020 Verget wines -- less intense, but the style and magic is there subtly. Interestingly I haven't felt that way about any of the 20 Guffens wines I have tasted, although they are quite lovely in their own …

Light yellow in color. Slightly reductive nose at first that blows off to reveal creamy yellow citrus and pears, ripe peach and lots of spices. Rather spherical in the mouth showing off riper orchard pit fruits, lowish acidity and lots of baking spices on the finish. Where did the acidity go?

With some age the pixelating finish has disappeared. Today the wine is rounder with salt and a touch of limecests. Very linear taste from start to stop. Diam 30

Verget's Les Combes is as usual very distinctively Verget/Guffens in style - ripe but not tropical, rich but not cloying. Persistent. A big wine and not going for finesse but it has good complexity and as usual outperforms the PF 1C in the range.

Thick chardonnay, almost full body but very attractive, great balance. Savory and salty.

L'équilibre est superbe entre l'acidité et la rondeur, la finale est persistante, le vin est déjà dans une belle phase, vraiment excellent

Have had the privilege of drinking several bottles. Each has been excellent, although the character has changed considerably over a short time. On release there was substantial reduction. After a year, the reduction was virtually non-existent. Then subsequent bottles were round and charming, but not quite as potent. Now I sense it’s a wine to give air and follow along, it only improves in the glass. Complete, delicious, and spherical. It’s not as dense as upon release, but there are …

Dollar for dollar probably some of the best money I’ve spent on white burg…really nice, vibrant, with some serious density and concentration. More on the pear / bruised apple side of the spectrum with some toasted nuttiness, floral notes, and pleasant well judged reduction. Still feels very young and compact - if you can snag these at release prices in the UK, it’s a lot of wine for the money. Happy I have several more to drink thru and follow …

Slight reduction, big mid-palate with notable dry extract, clean finish. This is showing more stuffing than last bottle, and is very appealing. I would be inclined to drink this over the next few years, it’s a stelvin enclosure after all, so presumably that’s what the winemaker had in mind.

An Opulent style, aromas of butter, rich fruit and minerality. On the palate butter and ripe peach balanced out by citrus and fresh acidity. Round and creamy but kept interesting because of the minerality and acidity. Pleasant and Medium long finish. Not the most exciting style, but very enjoyable and great value at €35.

Another winner from Verget in this vintage. I particularly like the minerality and chalky texture. This is deliciously easy to drink, bottle disppeared in a flash. Of the 3 Verget I have tasted from ‘20 so far, this is above Sur La Roche - more intensity - but not quite as magnificent as Combes - not as complete. It’s still early and things could change, honestly can’t go wrong with any 20 Verget. Bravo!

Loving these j.m. guffens across all sorts of levels, here included. The wines are extra fresh and beautifully textured with mineral effects and no hard edges at all. JM Guffens told me this might be the best vintage for his Verget label and this is certainly a good ambassador.

Dense almost chewy, this is a tremendous wine with a long life ahead. Enticing today but I expect it to become legendary in time. Big step up from Sur La Roche at the moment. Intersted to try them again side by side in a few years.

Round, easy to drink, not as much tension as I was hoping for. Good midpalate density. Hopefully this improves with couple more years, today 2017 is substantially better.

This pours light gold in the glass. The nose is moderately expressive and moderately complex. Aromas are of green tea, chalk, light matchstick reduction, white peach, white flowers, a touch of honey, and a whisp of vanilla pod. The palate enters on peach, but quickly turns to medium plus, quite sharp textured acid, becomes fairly chalky, but thins out toward the finish, which is a touch bitter and lacks the promise of the nose. All in all a nice bottle …

Diam30 cork. Nose mixes exotic notes with toasted aromas.Wine is medium to full bodied but stays in balance due to good acid structure. Taste replicates the sweet yellow fruit of nose and adds some mineral notes into mix. Paired very well with seared salmon in vermouth sauce. Was also pleasant to sip on its own. This is good now but will likely develop interesting nuances with time.

I expected something a bit bigger, but this was gorgeous, powdery fine chardonnay with a touch of citrus in it. Not a good match for the spicy pork we were eating and I am probably underestimating it.

Extremely good value for money, especially considering current Burgundy prices. First tasted through CV, but it was so good that I drank the remainder on the next day. Very nice acidity, peach and other white fruit, very good balance. Impressive.

Medium straw/yellow color. Nose is very buttery with surprising spiciness to it and lots of minerality and citrus. Palate is somewhat ripe but carries it well with pleasant acidity. Mineral driven but some fruity and citrus notes underneath. Finishes medium with lots of yellow fruit and just a touch more of that initial spice. Nice stuff.

Very well made wine. Buttery with salmiac and salted caramel. Still fresh and very polished. Not the estate graphes so probably the reason for the fair price. Impressive.
