Ripe fruit and generous. Blueberries and Cassis flavors, although not very focised. Acid minus that takes away from the wine. Round and full mouthfeel with ripe, still present tannins. Medium length, and pleasant finish.

Delicious - a charmer from the get go with lucious fruit in smooth package. Fine tannin backbone which dissolves with a steak while leaves a pleasant chewiness on its own. Mature noted of dried fruits among the ultraripe cherries and cassis. Wait another 5 or even 10 for next?

Seductive nose of dark cherries and violets. Opulent on the palate (15.3% alcohol), but well balanced. Subtle sweetness, perfectly integrated tannins. Everything is soft and round. Lovely.

No decant. Tasted blind with Colgin IX. Very similar profile. Colgin a little more length, still a bit of oak left to integrate in thr Shafer.

Beautiful wine but must decant at least 1-2 hours before the flavors fully develop. Mixture of mild tannins and fruit. Moderate to full bodied. Not a long finish. Probably could go a couple years at max being this good, but recommend probably to drink up.

The "junior" to Shafer's Hillside Select, the 2005 One Point Five more than holds it own. With a delightful mix of earth and muted fruit, it has a full-bodied richness that is thoroughly enjoyable in the mouth; it's a round, concentrated, lushness is felt in it's great finish and length. This wine has held up very well for 20 years and is ready to drink now.

Decanted for two hours, minimal sediment. Deep ruby color. Floral nose of blackberries, violets and cherries. Powerful, full-bodied dark berries on the palate with refreshing acids and velvety tannins. The finish is substantial and lengthy. Should be drinking well through at least its 15th birthday.

A solid cabernet, and certainly enjoyable with a nice tomahawk steak, but just a bit underwhelmed given the producer (shafer is one of my favorites), price, and vintage. Still very primary, and less evolved than I expected it to be. I don't have a lot of experience with One Point Five with bottle age, but my conclusion is that it's not quite a baby Hillside or declassified Hillside. Hillside Select still has a unique profile that stands out in Napa …

Part of a Napa Cab night with my wine group. All the cabs were opened, but not decanted for over 45 minutes before pouring. This is in a great place right now. A mix of spice and fruit and it still has great structure. Long finish, medium+ body.

Very dark colour showing very little maturity. The bouquet is dominated by dark berry fruit with a slight hint of tobacco. The wine is rich, round and full bodied - dark fruit and a long finish. Very well balanced and delicious.

Part of a Napa Cabernet night with my wine group. All the wines were opened, but not decanted for at least 60 minutes before pouring. Somehow I was less impressed with wine than previous bottles and I thought it was not as impressive as the other wines we had. Still a very good wine.

APPEARANCE: Clear and ruby in color, with deep intensity. NOSE: Clean, with medium(+) intensity. Detected floral (rose), black fruit (blackberry, black cherry) and a hint of wet socks. PALATE: Dry, with high acid/tannin/alcohol. Body is full, with medium(+) flavor intensity. Detected floral (violet), pungent spice (black/white pepper) and oak (vanilla, cedar) flavors, with a medium(+) finish. CONCLUSIONS: You can drink now, but it has potential for ageing.

Great wine but not my type. Non the less I can acknowlege the high quality. On the nose there is a lot of dark fruit, even a bit cooked or jamy paired with cedar wood and a slight hint of vanilla. On the palate the wine is very dense, fruit forward and broad shouldered. The finish is long and spicy.

Oh boy. Opened to pair with a grilled prime NY strip. Decanted for about an hour. Drinking very nicely now but I’m going to try to leave my 2 other bottles alone for an another couple of years. This will only get better and it’s pretty damned good now. I’m bad at wine speak but this seems in balance. Fruit, tannins, some acidity to cleans the palate. Big but not overly fruit forward. Just delicious. Have to be patient. The …

Part of a "Little Brother" or 2nd wine night with my wine group at a NYC restaurant. It was opened, but not decanted for over an hour before pouring. Both mine and the group favorite. It tasted a little muted at first, so I think it would have benefited from an hour long decant. It only started to bloom after 30 minutes in a 1/3 full wine glass. Then it was magnificent. Full bodied with a long finish.

Spicy nose of pine tree, retsina, toast, milk chocolate, lactic, but a very fresh hint happens here ! Ripe palate, smooth tannins, lesser gummy, warm feel and rich fruit in mid-late, building up ! rich and bold ! Winter Wine ! Superlative Juts entering its best spot I believe, as oak is well integrated, only alcohol is fairly overwhelming here and unbalances what could a really stunning wine ! A little cold does help to have a lesser warm feel …

The best bottle of six I've drunk since 2008. The slightly jammy notes I've found before is now not present anymore. This is a classic Cabernet, with still a lot of black fruit aromas and flavours left. Smooth tannins, well intergrated oak, moderate tertiary aromas/flavours. Long finish. Outstanding Napa Cabernet. Drinking perfect now. Can be kept in cellar for another 5-7 years.

Opened by Ron with dinner of smoked ribs. A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. Not decanted. Deep purple color. This was a well rounded and elegant Cab which was drinking very well at 4 years old. Ripe blueberries. leather and meaty notes. Supple tannins on the long finish. A wine punching above it's weight class. 94 points.

A bit too much sweet oak, with not enough minerality/austerity to counterbalance. Commendable for the dense, pure cassis concentration, but ultimately this style is a bit of a disappointment for me, particularly for the price (not blind). Perhaps it'll improve as the oak softens in the next 5 years (indeed, it improves in the glass).
