So I decided to open up some of the last bottles I had of some older wines that I thought would be dead to be honest. This was tasting fine right out of the gate but saved some to see how it would do on 2nd night. So glad i did! It was perfect aged Oregon Pinot on the 2nd night. tasted this yesterday at Dukes Family Vineyards, to me it was a star. Last of 33 wines for the day, so was past keeping notes. but a memorable nose, great structure of fruit and acid on the palate that lit up my mouth even after so many wines.

i can't think of too many wines i've had eight times, so it's fair to say i gave this a shot. tasted over 48 hours with a couple of private preserved stints in the fridge. i've had quite a range of opinions about this, so with this final bottle in my cellar i will declare it...ok. somewhat thick, a tad bitter, mildly stemmy, decent fruit, smokey. never matched the first taste.

13.8% alcohol. not decanted, but followed in the glass for 2 hours. air did allow an intial tartness to command less attention. ruby bing cherry and a bit stemmy. a step up from previous tasting, but i still struggle with the basic composition of the wine lacking vibrancy.

try as i might, i can't get another bottle to perform at the level of my first one almost three years ago. reading my past notes reveals a lot of tasting variables. tonight, this is actually thick in the midpalate; in fact, rather ponderous. no cherry, but strong black fruits. the one constant (unfortunately) has been the goopy, muddled aspect. very one dimensional. i was hoping to see a bit of bottle age allow this to recover.

initially, this was a mess. very tart, and astringent, almost bitter. after an hour of air, it settled down, but still too muddled in the midpalate. less confectionary notes than last bottle.

Phoenix eRP Offline - Pinot Noir (Backstreet Wine Salon, Phoenix) : Cloves, cherries, earth and spice cake. Charred oak. Well balanced with great lively acidity. Great mid palate complexity. For me this is by far the best Pint Noir we tasted this night.
