Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Dundee Hills

No detailed notes. Medium garnet red color with lots of sediment in the bottle. Ripe on the nose but not overly so with classic Dundee aromas of cherries, loam, and Asian spice. Quite rich on the palate without, again, being over ripe.

Dark cherry, spice, violets, sandalwood, some loam, pretty classis Dundee Hills aroma. On the palate, the tannins have softened and receded somewhat but there's still a tannic hardness to the finish. Medium body, medium acidity, nice minerality in the finish. There's enough fruit intensity that I think this will eventually come around, but it's going to take more time. There's a lot to like here and it does have good structure, but I think we're looking at 2028+ for this …

Compelling expression of high-quality fruit and terroir. Shading to Côte de Beaune weight and grip, if somewhat richer. New World wine and the Old World style. Impressively structured and balanced. Likely five to seven years from a middle drinking window. Delightful!

Beginning to show a touch of aged nuance, including light bricking. More than a little power and verve, throughout the tasting experience. Similar flavors/aromas to my tasting note from March 2021. This time tasted over two days. It is certainly better and more accessible on day two. It has softened some but still has a firm wall of tannins in the finish. Tasted over three days. Reticent compared to the bottle tasted in June. It showed best on the third day, and while excellent in all regards, not quite as riveting as the previous bottle.

I haven't enjoyed many of the Oregon pinots I've tried in the past, finding them either overhyped, over-priced or overly thin (and sometimes all three). This is none of those things. The strong backbone of acidity supports some lovely red fruits, and suggests this wine could age a long time. Good value too.

This bottle emptied all-too-quickly, not in the least because of its downright deliciousness. It also left several indelible impressions. I opened this bottle with the intention of consuming over two nights. Both nights the the wine was quite similar and probably better on the second night. Very dark fruited with notes of black cherry and plum sauce. There was Asian sauce flavor as well with some mushroom (mostly first night). Well done and one that can definitely use time.
