Laventura Viura Rioja Blanco

Considerably better than previuous bottle. A bit fresher, less flabby.

A touch underwhelmed, especially in light of some reviews. Pleasant, and not bad QPR - but not a big positive outlier, either. Did not get the melon notes that others have noted - not on day 1, not on day 2, not on day 3. Got citrus, medium low acidity, and some pleasant mineraliy. Finishes a touch bitter on the palate.

I’m impressed with this white wine from Rioja, especially the QPR. Nose is a great blend of melon, mild oak and minerality. The body is medium and despite the relatively light color, the palate is full-flavored with a creamy texture, nice acidity and a mellow finish. I’m not familiar with this grape, but it reminds me of a white French Rhone.

Rioja young wines : pale straw and medium bodied in the glass. the initial notes on the nose are of ripe melon that are enhanced by herbal and citric whiffs. it is fresh and dry in the mouth, with moderate acidity and a chalky minerality creating tension as the fruit flavours unfold mid-palate. with time, herbal and nutty touches appear and provide more depth. moderately long finish. 13% AbV; barrel-fermented and aged on lees.

I find this just okay. Pleasant but flabby. Tastes more like its $20 price than its 93 WA review.
