Quite rich and opulent Chardonnay farmed from old vines planted at 1984, pressed with whole bunches, fermented and later aged for 18 months in FR oak, 10% new. Medium lemon colour. Intense aroma apples, lemons, quince, stone, smoky notes, flinty hint. Medium+ body, concentrated, rich and expressive, yet juicy and full of energy. Silky texture, medium+ acidity on a softer side, smoky citrusy fruit flavours.

I fear this is closing up, or losing its fruit. Good but not great.

Absolutely delicious and complexed with plenty of acid to last years beyond this. If I guess at its peak in a 3-4 years.. but no need to wait. Held up beautifully the next day which lends to its longevity

A bit overwhelming on the nose with too much going on but lacking harmony. A bit confusing. On the palate good acidity and texture in the finish, but not my style of wine.

Lean, too much bitterness. Falls way short of the 21 Kumeu estate Chardonnay to which I compared it.

Very reductive on the nose, not as much as their SB. Once opened up really pleasant ripe and full chardonay but mineral undertones.

Popped and poured this time. Minerals and fireworks in the bouquet. Some of the tasters had to get used to it, but liked the complexity after a while. I personally love this wine also because of its intensity and its freshness.

Incredibly reductive with initial aromas of struck match and flint. If you can get past the reduction, it's very fresh with bright acidity. Yellow apple, peach, salted pineapple, nutmeg, tomato leaf, lemon curd and brine. Great concentration, complexity and balance...just so reductive. Hopefully this settles down with some age.

Minerals, white and yellow fruits, flint stone and fireworks in the complex bouquet. On the palate the same impressions, medium+ acidity and a good length. Impressive wine. Decanted 30 hours before tasting and that was a wise thing to do.

Lichtgeel met groene hint. Goed luchten, flinke reductie. In de neus citrus, jonge appelmoes met kaneel (wentelteefjes :)), citrus, selderij. Mineralig. Subtiele houtrijping. In mond heerlijk vol, boter, sappig. Krachtige zuren, goed rijpingspotentieel.

92+ A benchmark of NZ Chardonnay, a category still somehow managing to remain pretty under the radar. Not quite up to 2019 heights, but solid. Organic, single vineyard 🇳🇿 N: Lemon oil, preserved lemon brine, a bit of curd for richness. P: Punchy but elegant. Zippy rush of citrus, wet stone minerality, subtle reduction. Very linear, but with good breadth across the palate. Certainly ripe but with cracking med+ acid backbone. Some toasty oaky notes dance on the boundaries.

PnP and that does not really work with this wine. There is so much reduction/sulfur that is edges on rotten eggs. With 30-40m this blows off and you end up with an elegant chardonnay, with a good core of fruit, good acidity and lovely reduction

Tight, crystalline, with masses of concentrated energy and potential right now. This is seriously good stuff. Compact and expressive nose of lime, mandarin, celery, butter and toast. Opens with appealing reductive note and more delicate floral tones emerge with air. A sense of extraction on the palate, coiled pear and lemon, chalky and almost grippy, thrillingly sharp acidity. Given the opportunity to relax, soften and broaden this should be really really interesting in 5 years

Very much a winemaker made wine. With the trademark gunflint. And what seems a fair bit of skin contact, I’m not sure if that’s what gives it the green vegetal seam. It’s good. Stylish. But I think past compliments from Jancis Robinson have been a bit too high. No need to cellar.

[Tasted blind] I called Puligny Montrachet 2019 village from a good producer. Totally wrong, but a compliment to the wine, especially at €28/bottle. Medium+ intensity with a strong reductive note (which became a bit less overwhelming after 10-15 minutes), gun flint, herbs, lime, grapefruit, green apple, white peach, popcorn, toast. Medium+ acidity, medium+ finish A great glass!

Intensity medium(+), (candied) lemon, apple, white peach, gun powder, fire stone, toast. Acidity medium(+). Finish medium(+). Still beautiful and stable on day 2 and day 3; perhaps having overdone it somewhat on the sulfites (and hence, the gun powder)? However, quite enjoyable and good PQR.

Beautiful wine with good complexity, minerals, acidity and oak. I should save the rest of my bottles for some years so the oak can integrate.

Gave it 6 hours of air in a large decanter. Luxurious bouquet and taste, beautifully dosed oak, good and fresh citrus acidity and a great length.

Beautiful bouquet with good oak, citrus and mineral impressions. Same on the palate, green apple, vanilla, beautiful freshness and an enormous length. Still a bit too young.

Dominated by the oak right now. It's also quite milky.

The nose has some struck match, along with pure white peach fruit and a touch of spice. The palate is fleshy through the mid, has good detail and tucks in towards the finish. It has fine lemon cut to the finish and is long and engaging.
