Pongracz Desiderius

Pale yellow-green color that is surprisingly youthful for a wine of this age. A bit restrained nose, showing good amounts of developed, toasty nuances of cookie dough, brioche, roasted nuts, some creaminess, a little citrus fruit and a pungent, faint hint of something sweaty. The wine is quite gentle and round on the palate with rather modest acidity, making me think more of hot-vintage Franciacorta than classic Champagne. Nice biscuity bouquet. Good depth and length of flavours. The bubbles appear to be dying away, somewhat. First time I've tried this and I'm very pleased with it.

Wines on Holiday (All South African, mainly MCC) (South Africa) : R200, bling bling Cristal style bottle. I suspect this was recently disgorged, the cork mushroomed immediately, and it had a really fresh bitter lemon soufflé nose and was full of autolysis, a slightly odd mix of fluffy chardonnay and dense pinot, this remained eggy throughout, showed much more density than most wines but was just a little clumsy.
