Acker's COVID-Vaccinated BYO Dinner and Auction Simulcast (Craft - New York NY) : Small glass, brief note. Fully mature red cherry, lots of earth. Then good news... while lean, there were no green/ bitter notes. But the bad news... if blind, I would have though this 30+ years old, not 17 yo.

Super cloudy appearance but pretty damn good for a challenged vintage.

This was a disappointment. I'm not going to score it because it could be the bottle (or my mood). It was muddy, and seemed like it was over the hill. This is an iconic wine and I was hoping for excitement. Oh well.

Pretty green as expected given the vintage but Ponsot can shine in any vintage. Not my favorite but still some beautiful fruit emanating from the glass

Truly impressed by this griotte given the vintage. Nose has red fruit, flowers, and prunes. Palate is very expressive with precise red fruit. Very elegant. No greenness at home. The finish shows a bit of dryness. This is drinking at its peak. 92-93

2004 Burgundy Grand Cru Dinner (Holland Park) : One of a pair of very enjoyable 2004 Ponsot Grand Crus, this started with a lovely nose of spice and leather aromas weaving their way through ever-so-slightly stewed notes of dark cherries, plums and berries, all patted down with a tiny touch of earthy funk. A very warm and generous bouquet. The palate was very good too. A touch rustic structurally, wiith gritty tannins in the background, but this absolutely filled the …

drank 2 hours after opening. Nice nose of leather with some floral and forest notes.

Superlative. Great acidity, tension and fruit all in balance. Long way to go. Another great wine from '04, a sadly maligned vintage by some.

plummy and alcoholic on the nose, with leather and almost a hint of floral notes. After 3½ hours the nose was more musty and animal. Drinking pretty nicely.

Bt decanted for an hour, medium crimson, anise, mix of red and dark fruits aroma noted. Surprisingly good acidity with sweet fruit on palate, really cherry like as the name implied. Oak used very subtle and meddled well with spice, tannin also goes well with acidity. Quite four squared but complex and elegant.

nose was definitely more closed initially, without decanting or aeration. A little smoky, animal, leather, with a little violet later. More acidic.

I had always wanted to try a Ponsot, so I forked out and got a couple. The Griotte, from another producer, was the very first bottle of Burgundy I had which blew me away (a lot don't). Iron, stone and cherry on the nose. More of the same in the mouth. Medium bodied, long finish. Very delineated with pure fruit. This has got many years to go. Worth it.

Nose of baked cherry pie with some spice. In the mouth pure sour and tart cherry. Consistent with the nose there is some baked cherry aspect. You coukd say there is a trace of mineral, but there isn't earth. This wine is about the purity of fruit which is compelling. The texture is feminie and gentle. The wine finishes with sweet tannins that round out the wine. Is it profound? Probably not. Is it captivating? Maybe. Is it enjoyable? Yes! …
