Marguet Champagne Grand Cru Shaman 19

This was opened along side Emmanuel Brochet Rose d'assemblage. Stand alone I've loved this wine many times but next to EB tonight, it felt linear and missing the fullness. Still fantastic for 1/3 of the price.

A new try, almost a year after the previous bottle of the same vintage I can only confirm all the good comments made in my previous note. It's excellent :bubbles are adorable, it's well balanced, tasty witha a bakery final

63% Pinot noir, 37% Chardonnay. Zero dosage. Slight tinge of pink; Elegant and expressive vinous nose, showing that bit of richness that I associate with Pinot-dominant blends; palate is medium bodied, elegant acidity, balanced alcohol, good length; medium-plus length finish. A very lovely champagne, consistently good plot from Marguet. 91-92

Out of a magnum, for my 80th at Oeschberghof: Still quite young, svelte but fine texture and developed a fuller bouquet with exposure to air.

This drank as much more complete than my last bottle. You definitely get the pinot noir in the structure, but it works well with the style. Great food wine.

This is a somewhat oxidative Champagne with a lot of presence -- gold color, relatively weighty, low froth, integrated acidity, complex array of flavors with cooked apples at the forefront. It shares some of the characteristics of the Egly-Ouriet wines but feels a bit clumsier.

Fresh lemon acidity, minerals, touch of bitterness in the finish.

Disgorged 2017. Strawberry pie with a caramel drizzle. Very refreshing.

Dave E Wine Dinner - July 2025 (Q by Peter Chang, Bethesda, MD) : Pale pink-orange. Rich but light red fruits on the nose, with cocoa, pomegranate, praline as well. Dry and prickly on the palate with orange zest and grapefruit.

It's a Grand Cru, nearly full Pinot Noir, extra-brut (no dosage), barrel grown which explains the nice structure of the wine. Disgorged end 22. Delicate bubbles,the freshness is preserved and the final (with a hint of almond, or bakery) is long

On the nose and palate mostly dominated by warm oak notes and yeast. Nice. A very lavish Champagne without the highest complexity. But very joyful to drink.

2019 vintage

This is in a great spot right now. Still super dry and crip. Chalky with mineral notes and citrus. Great aperitif.

87% Pinot Noir 13% Chardonnay. Rustic, interesting style with plenty of Pinot Noir character. We enjoyed it.

Röda äpplen, mineral, tarte tatin, hasselnötter, lång och djup. Smörkola. Ruggigt god!

dsg 04/2018 Toasted nose, lemon peel, a bit of walnut and a ferruginous side. Quite austere palate, with certainly a dense juice, served by a good acidity but in terms of expression, it is rigid. Citrus aromas, then a big vinosity awakens in the second part of the mouth. Rather powerful Champagne. Quite good finish, which lacks length. Good. My second relative disappointment with a bottle of Marguet. But the profile of the vintage has something to do with it …

Purchased on release and stored at 55 degrees. NYE toast. Not bad but I was expecting more. Zero dosage, bright lemon, steely and austere. Perhaps would have improved at a warmer temperature? WOTN were a 1992 Rene Engel Clos Vougeot and a 2009 Screaming Eagle. 91 points

2017 vintage - Medium straw color .. green apple, citrus and floral notes on the nose .. fresh, similar notes on the palate with added honey element, bone dry finish .. burst of fine bubbles .. awesome overall, would buy again if I can find

Fruity attack, lychees morphing into almonds on the finish. Her Indoors says gooseberry, I’m assuming she’s talking about the wine

Clear, medium gold colour. Lemon and lemon peel, pear, raisin. Breas and toast. Almond and hazelnut, nuttty and hay. Pronounced intensity. Delicate mousse. Fully developed, I do not believe it will benefit further from ageing. Great glass though lacks a bit on the finish to score higher.

2019 vintage

This pours light gold in the glass with light remaining effervescence. The nose stunning showing bread dough, creme brulee, white flowers, fresh pastry, and candied lemon peel. The palate is immaculately balanced with medium plus acid, a round mouthfeel, moderate dosage (feels like 6-8 g/l), and a long finish replaying much the nose. This is fantastic stuff.

2006 vintage

Interesting! Really enjoyed, but... I don't know I would drink it regularly. This is not a joyful wine, but rather gathering storm clouds. Brooding, deep and rich, but also dry and flint-like. Slightly pink and slight tannic. A wine to contemplate existence to, not to share with friends.

Opened at the end of a really long wine night, so my notes aren't as precise as they could have been. All of us remember liking it even after 8 years of disgorgement. Pretty on the citrus side and gaining complexity in the glass. Very nice.

Nice wine. Got better on day 2 and 3 as well.

Very nice. Zero dosage, but ripe, so does not come across as so. Complex, though somewhat short.

Yeasty on the pop… Very active mousse…. Nose is appley brioche Palate is a bit oxidative apple notes… finishes with A limey tart finish I wrote the 2018 version didn’t have the oxidative apple notes… this one does

Un peu de patisserie, assez fin, droit, frais, rien de bien complexe par contre mais se boit très bien.

2017 vintage

Slightly pink in colour, also some red aromas of red currant. Very herbal, lets me think of chamomile. Complex and very interesting. Perlage is fine and very foamy but at medium intensity. This is not a fresh sparkler for a hot summer afternoon, but a rather complex drink that may make for a good food pairing?

This ‘17 champagne from Marguet was swinging out of the gate with a lot of different type of complexities. Notes of pine straw, fresh red apple, and a lot of heavy complexity. I scored this wine 94 points.

Très bien fait et bien équilibré, mais un peu trop simple dans son profil pour mériter davantage que 91 points.

2018 vintage

Beautiful medium gold color, lots of pure and lovely fruit (red fruits mostly) and floral elements on the nose with plenty of acidity and a medium plus finish. Delicious and the bottle didn't last very long- always a good sign.

Rich, complex, spicy. The bubbles are a little on the weak side and this bothered some. Not me. We drank the rest with a Brillat-Savarin before dessert and it worked real well. Very ripe and layered while still no dosage.

Oxidative, pure, minerality. Excellent balance.

Touch of cassis on the palate, black currant, good finish and acid with a long finish. Lovely

100% Pinot Noir, Disgorgement date March 2022, zero dosage. Golden with hint of pink, gorgeous fine bead; high intensity aromatics, citrus, a bit of strawberry fruit, a savory component which is quite nice; palate is medium bodied, refreshing medium-plus to high acidity throughout, a midpalate richness which balances the zero dosage well, fabulous fruit flavor including some red fruitedness (strawberries again), citrus oil; medium-plus finish. This is very nice, and it reinforces my notion that I particularly love Marguet's Pinot …

2017 vintage

First time having a Matguet. This was also from a magnum and I'll hold onto my next bottle for at least 5 years. The bubbles were quite aggressive but after settling, got notes of strawberries and cream, a hint of freshness with a really balanced toasty brioche long finish. I definitely would like to explore more from of Marguet's cuvées

Muddled strawberries, lemon zest, and dill oil. The burnt crust of a brioche. Beautifully integrated nutty/oxidative/sherry notes leading into chalky minerality. Serious but easygoing champagne. Heralds summer.

On pop 'n pour this was a one note. It happened to be a good note, but is wasn't complex...all ripe pink lady apple on the nose and the palate. 1.5 hours later and on to the 2nd day, this is smelling and tasting like some very herbaceous amaro, with bruised apple and coffee grounds. By this time the flavors on the palate are more mineral, white mushroom and dirty apple skin. This is definitely more complex than on pop …

Really nice rose champs that drinks well now. Ripe strawberry and creamy raspberry. Mineral streaks with floral as well. Doesn't require tons of attention or pondering, just very enjoyable and good quality.

This is great. To me the most distinctive feature is a sort of raspberry coulis on a nice crème anglaise with a flaky butter crust. A touch oxidative, which lends a subtle, but really lovely sherry character. Despite the lack of dosage it’s still rich and moreish. Nice QPR too. 6/22 disgorgement.
