Nose: blackcurrant, leather, cinnamon, licorice Notes: 13% ABV. Quite ripe and a little overwhelming. It's a pity that some of the Northern Rhone really takes 2 to 3 decades. It's probably unfair to give a rating today but given what I experienced I do find this to be overly concentrated right now and I will not resample this for at least another 7-8 years. Drink: 2032+ Rating: 88

[quick decant] medium ruby tending garnet. very expressive and developing. dried herbs and flowers, black plum, currant and blackberry, subtle spices, leather and soil. dry, supple medium body, moderate acidity and softening tannins. integrated flavours that work on subtlety and bend to the savoury. good persistence. drinking very well, but did fade by the third hour. 13% AbV.

New Year's in Eastman. Decanted an hour or two. A modern Cote-Rotie, but well made and well enjoyed. No funk, meat or gaminess. Lovely violet presence. Drink or hold a bit.

Purple/black fruit driven with a hint of olives. Green notes probably from stem fermentation (20% stems). Medium Finish. Floral scented suggesting some viognier mix. Classic presentation of a Cote Rotie.

Medium/deep ruby morphing into garnet. Not really getting much primary fruit on the nose or palate. Figs, prunes, cedar with some earth. Still enjoyable but I believe that it needs drinking up. Only one left.

Delicious. Doesn’t need a long decant. Drinking. Went beautifully with a savoury striploin.

Medium ruby. Med+ intensity - blackcurrant, blackberry, black plum, dried herbs, cedar, leather, coffee, chocolate, violets, cinnamon. Med+ acidity, smooth integrated tannins. Med+ finish. Suitable for further aging.

Decanted 90 minutes before serving. Medium ruby. Herbs, stems, and black fruit. Similar flavors in an elegant, supple, medium weight package. I find little of the floral lift and smokiness that set Côte Rotie apart. Good but pretty generic Syrah. Looking back at my prior note, it was better a year ago.

Eastman. My first of these, and ready to drink. Midweight, faithfully varietal, balance more than intensity, not showing much oak. I liked it.

Ruby but certainly not opaque. Medium weight. Supple, sexy, and a bit smoky with purple floral tones, wintergreen, and dark red fruit. Fluid, open, and unencumbered by tannin at this point. Excellent elegant wine, not at all a powerhouse. Should hold well for another 5 years.

Excellent time for this wine, balanced with good fruit and well integrated. Seems like I have become much more enthusiastic about this wine compared to a year ago. Not sure why, but I am sticking with my scoring.

Funky nose but came good 30min later. Opened up into a velvit smooth wine with a medium body, super fine tannin, red fruit. Complex nuance of flavour. Don’t pop and pour and you should be very pleased.

Drank alongside the Villa I Cipressi “Zebras” 2010 and most people preferred the Brunello to this. This is still a very nice wine - bright, classic North Rhône flavours - but felt a little light/closed. Suspect a little bit more time in bottle would see it blossom further.

Much better on day 2, really recommend a long decanting here. Quite typical Côte-Rôtie: dark, limited nose. In the palate red fruit, vanilla, spices and a touch of earth. A long, velvety finish.

Much, much too young, plenty of oak still hidng the wine, fruit is sound, healthy and coud outlast the oak - now, one must just wait for it to happen, so the spound Syrah notes of olives and bacon will be released to a proper Côte-Rôtie. #Mielcke&Hurtigkarl

Fantastic syrah. On the nose, game and loads of cola, soft raspberry. Great acidity, olive brine, elegance, soft raspberry, and hi-toned red fruit on the finely grained tannic finish.

Les Gobeloteurs Wine Garden Party (Domaine Stéphane Ogier - Ampuis) : Brief note from memory, tasted earlier today. From 6L at the domaine. Black and blue fruit with anise and black pepper. Good weight, then sneaky good+ length and a well balanced, persistent finish. I enjoyed this more today vs last time tasted 4 years ago.

Dark crimson, very fragrant nose on violet, fresh blueberry, olives, meaty notes. Precise attack, tannins are integrated, juicy black fruits, olive tapenade, integrated oak and black fruits swirl in the palate. Good acidity backbone keeps it fresh, no heaviness, and good finish. Need to explore more Ogier wines!
