Tardieu-Laurent, Cotes du Rhone Villages, Les Becs Fins Rouge

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Tardieu Laurent. As a large Rhône négociant their range is huge and varies massively in quality but at the top end they offer superb wines at unbelievably good value. cheers - amazing that I found a bottle of this CRD in my cellar and it was delicious....the "drink by" date on this was 2014, and that was a mistake, as this wine is drinking better than ever.....wish I had more, and for the price, an incredible value....2010 was amazing, and this little CDR proved that again

Ripe blackcurrant and blueberry, cough candy, lovely flowery Parma violets nose. The wine is rich and seems sweet with layers of black fruit which coats the mouth. Cough candy finish. Fruit forward, no discernible tannins and therefore wWnderful with a mixed plate of cheese.

This is a very tasty wine. Needs a bit of age, I suppose, but for its appellation it is very superior. Very supple intense fruit, some powdery grape tannin, very nice balance indeed. More approachable than some other vintages of this wine, though I've always been pleased with it. My friends and I bought quite a lot of this (my friends drink a lot). I anticipate this maturing very well indeed, and it might not take 10 years.

A bit past its prime but still drinking well. Darker fruit, medium backbone, but lacks acid as noted in a prior review. Shortish finish.

Color cereza picota, ribete rojo-granatoso bien vivo, capa tirando a alta y gruesa lágrima suavemente tintada. Buena intensidad en nariz con aromas de fruta del bosque madura (predomina la frambuesa fresca y toques de arándanos azules), marcadas notas licorosas que van desapareciendo a medida que el vino se va oxigenando, surgen las notas especiadas (pimienta roja), hierbas del monte con bastante romero y toques mentolados muy marcados que refrescan todo el conjunto. This wine must have mellowed quite a bit given the 2009 reviews here. It's quite enjoyable. It is slightly pruney and wants for acid, but shows nice mouth-coating, powdery tannins at the same time. At $20 it's ok, but at $10 it's good. It is not an ager.

2003 vintage

One of the better CdRs I've encountered, though also one of the pricier. Too soft really for my liking, but the fruit is solid and I love that whiff of violet.

2010 vintage

Cherry red with purple rim, slightly opalescent. Very simple and fruity nose, medium-low intensity, strawberries and shy notes of violets. Powerful attack, medium-high body, long, fleshy, somewhat astringent, medium intensity and duration fruity aftertaste. Much better in the mouth than in the nose.

Deep ruby color. Aromas of cherry, blackberry and toast with some black pepper. Medium-full bodied on the palate with slightly grainy tannins, a nice acidity balance and some ripe fruit. The finish is long with a spicy zing to it. Better with food! Enjoyable right now and it will hold for several more years, but I don't expect it to improve. Drink now - 2014.

2008 vintage

I figured this would be dead, but it's an enjoyable cotes du Rhone with big fruit and enough acid to keep it from being cloyingly sweet. There was an initially strong barnyard stink that was off-putting, but it blew off quickly.

2003 vintage

nose: raspberries, vanilla, spice, and violets. palate: blackberries, pepper. any other flavors are overwhelmed by the overbearing oak. was not impressed.

2008 vintage

A bit grainy and rough for me right now. The fruit and acids are a bit disjointed. The fruit has decent quality, but is missing any depth and the acids are pretty much a wash. I was in the area during harvest and realize this will never be a thing of beauty. Approx $20, drink thru 2018
