Bubbles at Dinings (Dinings SW3) : Such a contrast to the preceding wine - my scribbled notes start with simply "COCONUT!", and as well as the abiding influence of oak (there was also a more tasteful sandalwood aroma) the wine really showed its relative maturity. Lovely pale gold colour. Very stinky nose - light strike? Very lively, fresh attack somehow blended with an oxidative profile on the mid palate and finish. Hint of orange. Initially, quite good energy but became quite flat. Not sure quite what to make of this!

not blind Very convincing for the first time. Shows first aging signs but still on the fresh side. Lime, grapefruit and some creamy aspects. Brutally acidic but for the first time balanced. 94-95

Mid to full gold. After a run of bottles getting steadily better over the past five or six years, this one feels as if it’s on the downslope, so no bad thing it was the last from the case. Just lacking some energy and tension, the oxidative nature taking over somewhat and dulling the package. Nicely rich and drinkable, but… ***1/2

Tasting with Benoit Marguet (in Ambonnay at the winery) : Tasted alongside the 2009 Sapience. I think I am preferring this 2009. Both are 10 years on the lees, from three fruit sources (Laval from Cumières, Leclapart from Trépail and Lahaye from Bouzy). Natural wines - Special Edition (Barabba) : Still very young in its profile and needs at least 3-5 years to really open up. The structure is pronounced but also some lovely green apple fruit. There is a clear mineralic depth that makes it a very lovely wine. Very impressive but still too young.

Lots of cut red apple body here, especially with air, initially the fruit seems bruised and oxidative, but this lifts and cleans nicely overnight. Good body. The creamy character of previous bottles has faded and this has become more vinous. ****

Pale gold colour, restrained apple bouquet , extra brut so dry but ripe rich stone fruit flavours counteracted the dryness to make a mouth filling lingering taste - drinking perfectly now and for 5 years or so

Needs an hour in a decanter to really open up. Still an infant and would wait years to fully enjoy. But still drinks amazing at the moment. Great balance, depth and finish. An amazing experience and a wine that I believe will only get better

Light colour. Low dosage but still round and balanced. Long with hints of brioche and citrus with a great mineral backbone. Has richness and complexity but still a light airy and magic touch – very special.

Nose of apples and berries. Taste very broad and vinous, mineral, slightly salty, long finish. Impressive bubbles, wonder how they will develop, lots of potential.

IBBS @ Trompette (La Trompette, London) : Nicely rich. This is rounding out and holding nicely despite the low dosage. Creamy and rounded, the apple note to the rear. Nicely buttery. Moderately full bodied. Very decent. ****

Rockstar Champagne... like, all of them (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR) : Wow, really lovely nose. Incredibly pretty with a nice floral, pollen note. Perhaps a little bit like scotch, too. Weird. Rich palate, showing some flavors of squash. Soft and lovely texture. Puckering and creamy finish, which is again lovely and smooth. Nice cutting, puckering acid. This thing has quite a lot of elegance and grace. A very confident wine.
