nose - burned orange, sherry. Mouth - faltering. Caramel flavors but fruit is clearly muted. Hollow midpalate and unimpressive finish. Probably past its prime. Score of 87 but mainly based on the strength of its aromatics.

Nothing left of this wine right now. Very little fruit, no tannin, no spice. Would have guessed Merlot at this point as it had no zinfandel charachter.

Was misplaced in my cellar so was not drunk earlier. Surprising fullness at this age for a Zin. Plenty of blk cherry, reasonably long finish with none of the "hotness" frequently found in the '98 Zins. Can't remember if the previous bottles displayed this uncharacteristic softness. Expected nothing so not tasted for score but VERY enjoyable. Wish I had "lost" more.

This is not an over the top style. Perhaps that has something to do with the vintage. 1998 was not a very good vintage weather wise and did not produce overly ripe fruit. This wine was suprisingly food friendly and matched the chicken tangine (a Morrocan dish) perfectly. It was rather fruity with a grapey character and mangosteen notes. Nice round finish. 89 points.
