A very typical tempranillo, powerful and sweet at the same time. A perfect wine for an early September outside evening diner

Medium ruby in color, medium intensity on the nose with sous bois, leather, (dried) dades, dried figs, black plum, mushroom, meaty. Medium+ acidity, medium tannins, long finish. More developed than the last bottle. 91-92

Didn't turn out to be such an oak monster after all, and seemed even more balanced compared to the last 2016 I had. Guess the extra year of aging in this 2015 has done wonders for this Rioja! Spicy, bold and concentrated, with a muted nose. Tannins and acids remain high, with a good rounded vanilla and tobacco finish too. Very nice and intense rioja, let’s of fruit and Berry, but somewhat lacking finesse, not particularly dry

Spicy, smokey, manly, serious stuff, plenty of roasted fruit; needs a steak, really, and a concentrated sauce. Will keep, but seems quite open for business. #Podcast#Seier

Interesting wine it’s a bit heavier than most Rojas but the tannins are nice and silky the finish is long with a litter peeper. In front there is cherry and it’s complex I truly enjoyed but for some reasons given the Vega Sicilia & Rothschild Mamés on the label I expected more. Nonetheless it’s a very ni e wine but at this price point there are a lot of nice wines.

Palate: Dry Medium acid High tannin High alcohol Full body Pronounced blackberry, blueberry, sour cherry., black pepper. Chocolate. Toffee. Finish: medium Overall quality: outstanding. Well balanced, complex but identifiable flavors. Looking forward to a few more years in the cellar.

Vega Sicilia Unico...and Related Wines (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL) : Tasting, brief note. Opened, double decanted an hour+ earlier. Big, black and brawny in a manner I typically would not associate with Rioja. Good+ weight, but more assertive tannins for now.
