Domus Áurea from a magnum stored for almost 2 decades. Cork completely fell to pieces (in fact the corkscrew hollowed out a channel right in the middle while leaving the periphery of the cork unscathed) so was quite concerned about the state of the wine. Ended up being ok though even if way more evolved than expected (especially compared to Bordeaux from the same vintage). Heavily bricked. Still some fruit. Very prickly and furry mouthfeel which was… different. Didn’t manage …

Wow, what a surprise! Based on my last bottle in 2014, I didn't have much hope for this, my last bottle the 2005 vintage. It is amazing. Still dark red/black with soft but very present tannin. I've had few wines that changed in the glass so quickly. The nose on this wine was fascinating. Early green, earthy notes typical of Chile, but as it evolved then came the dark fruit unfolding with major floral tones followed by coffee/chocolate, eucalyptus, apricot …

Potent, concentrated aromas of dark berries (currant & blackberry) with cocoa, vanilla, bramble, eucalyptus, cigar box, loam and some dry meats / charcuterie. Beautiful ruby red color with medium halo and little signs of ageing. Full bodied, intense, but superbly balanced with fine tannins and great acidity. The palate and aftertaste reveal an explosion of black and blue fruits along with liquorice, spices, vanilla, leather and loamy earth. It can easily withstand another 5 years, even though I can't see …

8/10 - No formal tasting note. None of the earlier issues that I had with the wine. Really coming into its own now. Enjoyable and good to drink. A pity I don't have any more!

Less of its eucalyptus and mint character in its maturity. Still a distinctive and tasty Cabernet featuring cherry and currant aromas. Less earthy and loamy, less Chilean character, but a very nice, clean wine, with time to go, maybe even five more years in this.

Nice deep ruby, fantastic nose of red berries liquorice and cedar. perfect balance, great body, long smooth finish. Wine is drinking perfect right now, do not see any room for improvement or reason to wait, drink up!!!

Very unique wine. Nose rather strange at the start: funky, green, pickle juice, road tar, etc. Dark fruits with some spice and on day 2 distinct cocoa powder. Light & silky without being watery. Some structure left. Found it more than tolerable because of its uniqueness.

It may be past its peak in 2014, but it still opened up nicely. Fully bodied. Gorgeous nose.

PNP, outstanding Chilean cab, complex smokey nose and palate, with black cherries, plums, currants, cassis, hints of blueberries and yes a little mint/menthol. This cab is rich, concentrated, yet balanced. Been in my cellar for over 4 years and was worth every day, sadly last bottle!

7.5/10 - Refer to prior note. However, seemed a bit more alcoholic and less well-integrated as I remember it to be. Still serviceable, but not memorable.

Dinner with Monthly Group at Park Palace (Park Palace, Grand Park Hotel) : From a double-magnum via a large decanter, I thought this was decently good without being great. It a typical Chilean nose with flecks of green in its nose of young tobacco leaf and sprigs of fresh herb to go alongside ripe cassis, spice and warm, earthy aromas. The palate was pleasant, with silky tannins spread under lush, sligtly sweet notes of ripe cassis, earth and warm spice, …

Brick red colour, oak and berries on the nose, nice balance and medium finish. Drinking well with an hour decant.

8/10 - No formal tasting note. As good as I remembered it to be (see previous tasting note). Took some time to really show itself (pop and poured), but once it did it was very very pleasant.

Last bottle was two years ago. Time has been good. Dark crimson/magenta with a big time nose of ripe raspberry, currant, smokey charcoal, and mint. Delivers a sweet punch of fruit along with tarry Chilean smoke and roasted mint. Broad in the mouth finishing fairly long. Great balance of fruit/wood/acid, with each finish begging for another sip. Goregous stuff - good for the next five years+. 93.

pnp. very strong showing from this wine. big sweet red fruits with the typical chilean mint/eucalyptus note. nothing underripe or overly earthy. turned a bit dirty on the palate and finish where the fruit quit a little too early for me. but all in all, this was very unique and more terroir-driven for a chilean cab than other high-end bottlings like the don melchor.

I didn't notice the harsh chemical smell this time, but still not a wine I like.

Funky musty cumin odor, some depth and body, may have been good earlier in life.

I don't get this wine at all. I opened three bottles from two vintages and two different retailers, but all were consistently unpleasant. Nose of chemicals - maybe petroleum and malathion? -and harsh taste. High ratings from everyone else, but I couldn't drink it at all.

very distinctive, but just not sure if it's in enough of the right direction to warrant a higher score.

Young, and super tight. Shows lots of brambly red and black fruits on top of a seemingly never-ending foundation of ash. Looks promising, but I wouldn't touch it again for quite a while. Hold three years+. 91-93 -JRS (Tasted November 2009)

Whoa! Sweat and green herbs intermingle with espresso and smoke. Thick and tannic, dark fruits were more pronounced in the palate. Good structure with medium finish but can definitely get better with age.

Very dark color with a definite herbal streak on the nose mixed with some stony earth and cocoa. Medium bodied with nice fruit on the palate. In fact, probably more fruit then you would expect after testing the nose. As another CT taster mentioned, this is a very terroir driven wine and it reminds me of the Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon quite a lot. Finishes with a good dose of tannins on the back end. I suspect that this should …
