Way too modern and oaky for my taste.

Not sure why I have 2 bottles of this in the cellar. Extracted, dark fruited and oaky. The palate is in line with the nose with a polished modern vibe. The only good thing is the mineral (slate) presence. Fine tannins are still grippy. Not a win and i don't see this improving with time.

My last bottle of this bought EP. Perhaps the most complex of the three wines had - full bodied, tannic and earthy with a long finish. It did change quite a bit during the night with some 'dustiness' coming through as well. An interesting wine.

Day one and this is quite a different beast to what I remember. Surprisingly modern, with chocolate & oak dominating. Somewhat syrupy. Day 2 and there is now a burnt, bitterness to this - unpleasant. Thankfully this dissipates and the earthy, tannic profile I remember upon release reveals itself. This may be going through an awkward phase or needed a lengthy decant. Will hold remaining bottle for a few years to see how it develops.

At PnP, this is thick, dark, highly extracted, a bit backwards, and a bit blowsy. Tar, dense minerality, and thick black fruit, and vanillin-oak… yet curiously hollow on the mid-palate. Reminds me more of 2010 St Emilion, which isn't really a compliment. PnP. Nicely intense nose of black fruit, tar, gravel minerality, chocolate, and wet forest, but more of a spring forest rather than autumn. Adding liquorice and pepper on the palette. Very ripe black fruit, juicy, but with plenty of acidity to balance it out. A tiny bit hot. Popped and poured and enjoyed over 2 hours with grilled flat iron steak. A bit biting on first taste, but 30 or so in, this smoothed nicely. Tannins are well integrated. Deep purple in color. Hints of meat, forest floor, strawberry, cherry and raspberry. Nice second wine of Calon. Drink now and over next 5+.

Day one: Beautiful (new world) nose of chocolate. Vegetal, tannic and very earthy palate however. Save for day 2. Day 2 and this has really settled down. The chocolate nose has disappeared with plummy notes, firm but subtle tannins. Very nice though probably have a slight preference for the 09s. Needs more time in the cellar though, 2 -5 years IMO. Looking pretty nice now with some horse barn earthiness, rich oak, and nice Cab fruit. The new oak has an almost American coconut flavour. Something a touch tart late finish for me that annoys, but otherwise a very enjoyable wine.

Only had a glass at the Grove Restaurant but was beautiful now but with plenty of life left in this. Suspect will be in an even better drinking window in 5+ years time.

Agree with Zaphodb notes. Day one this was untouchable and too closed - just a brooding dark beast. Day two it had softened with blackcurrant and cigar box coming through. Day three it had hit its heights with a strong hint of its potential, expresso dominant. In 5 - 10 years I think this is going to be outstanding.

Rich, opulent wine with lots of fruit and character in nose and mouth. Deep red, nearly opaque. Rich nose with notes of plums, black currants, cedar, underbrush and a little cigar box. Thick ruby color. Interesting nose of ripe black raspberries ,black-iron minerals and classic St. Estephe graphite dust. Quite rich and ripe with flavors that echo the nose which lead to a still tannic, dusty and tight finish. Better with food which subdued the intense tannins and brought out the dusty graphite notes of the locale. In need of a few more years and I'm concerned about the jammy notes on the finish. 87?

Color: dark inky purple, bright purple hue at rim. Aroma: Mint, parsley, damp forest floor, tobacco, intense herbal aroma. Taste: Palate entry, sweet juicy grape, jammy cherry. Mid-palate: Silky smooth tannin, tobacco, alcoholic, herbal. Finish: Oak, white pepper, sharp acid, anise. Short finish. Juicy, jammy wine, light tannin but alcoholic.
