Medium gold color Medium plus aromas of ripe pear and soft petrol notes with touch of saffron/ ginger botrytis notes Medium bodied - touch of RS but still would call this dry - palate of ripe lemon/lime and pear with hints of canned pineapple to close - distinct dry minerality on the finish Medium plus acidity with medium alcohol and no noted phenolics Fantastic length led by fresh fruit and acidity Drinking great now but could hold for years as …

Double blind tasting Gold, bright reflections Aromatics medium +. Tree fruit, mainly yellow pears followed by mild petrol and flinty persistent rocky minerality. No new oak Palate has a medium + body. Acid medium +. No phenolics. Alcohol medium. Intense minerality with a lemon/lime fruit core. I did not notice residual sugar Finish has a medium + length led by the acid and minerality. Balanced. This is all about minerals, acid and it just sings to me. Quite nice. Drink …

100% Riesling from the Grand Cru Rangen vineyard, grown on granite soil. 14,5% alcohol, 2 g/l residual sugar and 5,5 g/l acidity. Tasted blind. Pale yellow-green color. The nose feels surprisingly understated with light and subtly sweet-toned aromas of white peach, some floral notes of apple blossom, light honeyed nuances, a little bit of fresh Fuji apple and a hint of mineral spice. The wine feels ripe, broad quite balanced on the palate with a full body and somewhat sweetly-fruited …

I concur with chatters: given the reputation of the grower and the vineyard, this wine is slightly disappointing. And 762 gram per bottle is exaggerated

Amazing! Still so much life left. Baked apple. Spice. Perfect with the fontina, speck cabbage hot pocket.

A super complex nose of apricot, rockmelon, peach, floral spice and smoky mineral. Layered in the mouth, with such great presence and concentration. Just off dry and cut by a rich vein of minerality. Some lemon rind and grapefruit punctuates the extremely long finish.

Vintage and Vine Grand Cru Riesling tasting (Bentley Bar & Restaurant, Sydney) : Medium minus intensity aromas of a little kerosene, slight citrus and a smidge of stone fruit...Juicy, tangy, slightly bitter, alcohol warmth, muted flavours...it's a bit meh for me.

Vins d'Alsace - Digital Wine Fair : Lemon peel, red apple and floral notes on the nose. Palate is nicely balanced, with the fruit clearly quite ripe but a well held line and drive. Medium length and depth here.

On it's downslide. Golden-amber, pleasant nose of lightly caramelized white peaches & unripe apricots . Palate was less expressive but showed no ox, just light residual fruit and secondary flavors. Short 15 sec finish. Drink now. Went nicely with the lesser spicy Thai dishes from a very spicy Thai street food spot.

Different than last bottle which leads me to believe there was something wrong with that bottle. Wet stone and melon on the nose. Taste peach, melon and minerality. Little of diesel just starting on the edges. Liked.

Cellar raiding at Jeff's : Others disagreed, but I wasn't a huge fan of this - found it overly ripe and showing a lot of botrytis, even though it came across very dry. The aromatics show a lot of honeyed and spicy notes along with apricot and peachy fruit, but the fruit flavours here also feel somewhat dried, and it doesn't show any of that smoky/savoury complexity I expect from Rangen.

Deep bronze, a scary color to see in a non-SGN/VT Riesling but despite looking and smelling like late harvest Riesling (pure apricot), it's still reasonably fresh, dry, and detailed with minerally acid and sweet flowers. Starts rich on the palate but ends with cut and dryness, and little bit of hydrocarbon, honey, and more apricot. Good, probably a lot better for Rieslingheads.

Lovely evolved scent and very soft, tasty mouthfeel. Not much acidity left and lost some power but so so composed and classy balance of sweetness and minerality. Expected a bit more complexity but still very good.

I can't truly score this wine because its different than any other riesling I've had. Amber in color, there were some wine diamonds on the cork. Serious nose of white florals, but mixed in with some vanilla and some tropical fruits that are a touch muted. Dry as a bone, but packed with mineral and key lime acid backbone, the fruit is really subdued but I think I can make out some persimmon and a touch of caramel. This would …

Golden yellow. A hint of residual sugar nicely balanced with juicy peach and apricot fruits, and crisp minerality. Very taut and structured- a reminder why I love Alsace for Riesling.

golden yellow. initially i let the sulfur blow off and then it developed into a wonderful wine consumed over two days. not quite dry. starting to develop a bit of petrol but still mostly a primary riesling nose. wonderful mouth feel with a long finish. definitely no longer young but not yet fully mature.

In the beginning this had a nice flowery nose and a well-bodied oily palate, but it quickly closed down never to emerge again. There is class in this wine, but, at least at the moment, it wasn't a very inspiring experience.

Mild oxidative notes found in last year's bottle are way more pervasive in this bottle. Deep orange/bronze color - totally gone. Bad storage?

David Bowler Fall 2007 Portfolio Tasting (NYC) : Similar to the Sommerberg 05, but more lemon fruit than mandarin orange. Touch more persistence on the palate, good focused fruit flavors. Needs time.

Surprisingly advanced golden color with a nose that calls to mind a full blown dessert wine - lychee, tea, and honey. On the palate, completely dry with a strong apricot accent backed by mineral notes. All in all, a good drink, but just a bit too plodding and heavy to be outstanding.
