I must have had an extra '13 in my cellar. Brick red color. On nose, sweet/sour cherry with tobacco, herbal notes. Palate similar (sweet/savory) with medium body, medium+ acidity, medium tannins and very long finish. Loved this. Has aged beautifully. 94+/-

Bright appearance. Pronounced menthol and cherry throat sweets initially. Settles down to herbal sage, tomato leaf notes. Lovely mix of sweet and savoury. Dusty tannins ate nicely integrated. Drinking very well currently/probably won’t improve.

Delicious wine, drank over several days with Vacuvin closure and it held up! Needed some air to soften the tannins.

Ruby red. Sweet morello cherry and leather on the nose. Balance, but no freshness and the fruit seems to be fading. Neither is the length quite up to my expectations. I had the previous bottle in February, and that was better (87). This can qualify as good (83), but no better than that. On the way down, in my estimation.

Delicious. Popped and poured because it's ready to go. Paired it with pizza/pasta. It's a terrific food wine, pairing really well with red sauces. An elegant and well-balanced Chianti, it's best appreciated by those who enjoy savoury notes like tobacco and forest floor.

An excellent Chianti with depth and balance. The fruit leans more to dried than fresh but it’s not lacking in vitality. Probably would have benefitted from a decant off its sediment because the last glass or so had clamping tannins. I enjoyed and appreciated this.

In a very good spot now. Only moderate acidity (2015 was a hot vintage), but round (and, for a Chianti, very full) and balanced. Stable over three days,,92.

Last bottle in stash. Perbacco, what a wine. I agree with the earlier comment about the nose being savory. It's very enticing. Brownish rim thicker than last time. Still showing good dark red fruit but secondary now. Balanced, delicate, and dry but soft/agreeable. Probably has life left but I'd drink up.

Dark transparent red --- Nose fresh, red fruit, cardboard, elegant wood notes, newspaper, some glue --- Palate fresh, very nice acidity followed by red fruit, tannins still alive, some walnut, watery, astringent, less fruity than yesterday, nevertheless captivating in its linear, clear, focussed expression of 2016 Tuscany, some dried tomatoes --- Finishes on vibrant character, fruit flashing back added by some ash. Nice piece of vine. I am starting to drink Tuscany 2016 and every bottle was a delight so …

Fine tanniner og syre, som sikkert vil blomstre med mat. Super til maten. Sdmefull og relativt fersk frukt med nyper. Krydrede noter ala den lokale bakeren Jakobs brd.

Fruit leaning toward the red spectrum. Initially some herb and spice accents. Later, light menthol and licorice. Medium weight and concentration. Solid acidity. I didn't find this as tannic as some of the recent notes here, or as Galloni mentioned in his reviews, but I don't mind some tannin. I like this.

The complexity on this almost makes up for how insubstantial it felt on day one. Black pepper, walnut, pomegranate molasses, date, dust, leather, dried flower, cedar, bay, dried cherry, cinnamon stick, smoke, and powdered hot cocoa mix. A touch more plush after 8 hours, and significantly simplified on the second day. Enjoyable, but not remarkable.

Nose: Earthy fresh soil, autumn. Palate: Dried flowers up front, loads of dried leather; dried dark berries. Chunky tannins that somehow manage to remain svelte. Still plenty of life, which is great considering this is already 10 yrs old.

This was a very nice Sangiovese from outside my beloved Chianti Classico and Montalcino. From a very intense (for Sangiovese) cherry color with garnet nail, it has a beautiful nose of crunchy fruits, orange peel, earthy witha little rustic touch. On the palate i's very intense, with young and grippy tannins, bright acidity. The finish ie very long but still a bit aggressive. Beautiful Sangiovese still in its young age, I would open it in 5+ years.

Recent reviews of the past 6 months score this from 94-86. Only one review mentions food to accompany this wine. Opened my first bottle of 4. Took a tiny sip before food. It has all the hard edges of young Chianti though now a bit softened. As soon as I started trying it with roasted vegetable pizza it became a wonderful Chianti with lots of refinement one expects from a Reserva, and from this one from Selvapiana. I have had …

Clear and light colour. Elegance and lightness of touch are the key elements in the mouth too. Some strawberry, leather and dried herbs feature on the fine nose. All the same, it has good freshness and a bite to tackle steak and chips with sauce bernaise. On the borderline between very good and excellent, hence the 87 points. (Those who score it into "outstanding" territory must have been much more lucky than I have been - or far more generous.)

Tawny in colour. Fabulous bouquet. Red fruit caramel- cherry mainly and strawberry. Slight sweet bouquet. Balsam. On the palate, very smooth. Fruit, slight sweetness. Light weight despite 14.5%. Soft tannins. Acid noticeable on the back palate and a wonderful finish. Drinking superbly, and I wouldn’t keep it any longer as I suspect the fruit would go.

It took a few years, but we now have a classic (though not Classico) Chianti Riserva here. Between changes in the weather, winemaking trends, and critics' recommendations to drink even Riservas fairly young, a Proustian Chianti experience has been increasingly hard to come by. I found this bottle satisfying even if nothing's exceptional. The fruit's stepped forward, and the body's filled out since its somewhat anemic youth. This might improve a little further over the next year or two, but …

This had some of the recognizable components of a certain type of Chianti Riserva -- the dusty, dry cherry fruit up front and a leathery astringency in the aftertaste -- but it didn't have very much else. The lack of intensity was disappointing though we didn't have any problem finishing the bottle.

Served with steak and stir fry veg. The wine was ruby with brown edges. Looked quite dense. Nose of soy, balsam, fig and spice. In the mouth, I was relieved to find pretty red fruit sitting atop the rich, almost umami notes. Med minus acid, tannins v fine but providing length. My dining companion said approvingly “no corners on this”. It’s that kind of wine. Well developed, mature and respectful chianti. I loved it. @Twowinechicks below called this right.

Ladies and gentlemen! I drink a third glass and I wonder how it is possible that this €20 bottle is so good! Explosive, and I mean explosive aromas, delicious, juicy flavors. Perfect balance and harmony. Long, long finish. Ok, let's start from the beginning. Smell? You don't have to put your nose into glass. 5-10 centimeters away you would smell 10 tons of cherry mixed with forest, tobacco, cedar, dried fruits and much more ( something black is hovering here …

Dark ruby with tinge of brown edges, cedar and balsam on the nose, medium bodied, and surprisingly fresh, lively, and sweet. Completely balanced and harmonious, this was a fantastic accompaniment to grilled hanger steak ( marinated overnight in Korean Kolbe sauce) and grilled veggies. A vivid reminder that riserva Chianti can and does benefit from nearly a decade of cellaring.

Very nice and a definite improvement into the usual Selvapiana style since the last bottle. Light in body, still crunchy, with good balance and dryness, yet light on fruit, earth, and everything Selvapiana. As to where 2015's from Italy are of exceptional quality, this one comes in underweight and shy, while still being in character after the bottle aging. I am glad I recognized the nature of this vintage before loading up on it as I usually do. Happy to …

Decanted 30 minutes before dinner. On the nose mainly ripe stone fruit with an earthy touch, on the palate smooth tannin, full bodied with good freshness and long finish. Very good, classic Sangiovese Riserva from a rather warm year, not much different from the bottle we had 2 years ago. A short decant is recommended. Drink now or within the next 6 to 8 years.

Pulled a bottle from a lost case. This is what you get when you send someone into the cellar to look for a bottle of wine...They find things you had lost or forgotten about. This has come so far over past 3-4 years, a completely different showing. Medium red in colour. Wafting from the glass is tobacco and freshly cut wood. Perfectly balanced with some racy acidity that helps wet the whistle with spring strawberries. Tannins are fine and soft. This is a really good Chianti, and ready to drink now.

This is a terrific wine at its apogee. I made a spur of the moment decision to open this to accompany Friday night Tagliatelle alla Bolognese. Thus, I reflexively decanted it, though I’m not sure it really needed it. This is what I want in a Chianti paired with a red sauce: still lots of fruit on the palate, but well-balanced so it worked well with the food. A real pleasure!
